Title: Front end respray
Post by: Ian65 on September 26, 2009, 04:45:00 PM
I\'ve now got a replacement front bumper bar ready to fit to my car. The bumper skin, front rubberised valence, n/s headlight panel and front nose panel all need respraying.
My dilemma is:
As the bumper skin and valence have to come off anyway, and the front panel and headlight lid are easy to remove, should I just take the panels to the bodyshop to be resprayed or take the complete car.

Most times that I have used paint shops in the past, the car comes back with dust everywhere, in the engine bay and all the palces that they can\'t be bothered to clean / mask off.

I suppose also that I may get a slightly better price if they don\'t need to spend time masking the car up.

What do you reckon I should do?

Consider taking the panels off and spraying them yourself with aerosols.
I\'d try that first because you can take all the time you need to get it right and only the nose cone is a sizeable area. Plus Red is a bit of a pig to match - you can experiment on an out-of-the way area to get it right.
If it won\'t work for you or you don\'t want to do it then I\'d take the complete car to the paint shop and tell them you want a proper colour match.
Lovely day for spraying today....warm and still. Might hold for a couple of days?

Yeah, i thought about spraying it myself but plastic and flexible parts need an additive in the paint to stop them  cracking as the part moves.
I dunno if you can get that type of paint in a diy aerosol?

Hi Ian, ive got some spray guns but my compressor is a bit big to move, if you can get your hands on a compressor maybe you could have some paint mixed and if you do a good job you can do mine :D
