Title: Stand alone ECU and mapping the RX8
Post by: Ziggy on September 24, 2009, 11:17:42 PM
I\'m presently still planning and have questions on ECU choice and mapping.

I am fitting an RX8 motor/box into a Westfield and plan to run NA initially and am considering FI eventually (turbo to low pressure for ~300BHP). I will start with the factory ECU but I potentially need to be able to remap, add boost control, launch and traction control so a new ECU is the only way to go.

Q1; Choice of ECU may not be that critical as MoTec, DTA and others all seem to offer comprehensive options and mapping software. I have only ever worked with an MBE/Easimap on a Zetec. What experience and views do forum members have on other ECU\'s in rotaries?

Q2; Are there any base ignition and fueling maps published for the NA motor that would allow a safe start up from which I could begin mapping

Q3; Linked to Q2, I have read most of the threads but have not yet understood the way the injectors are sequenced (a map might clarify this). Is one pair running across the full map and the second pair only operational in a specific higher rev or TPS range?

Q4; Where can I track down info on control of the various valves on the motor (an how many can I ditch). There seem to be at least three in the intake system plus other emission control systems

Lots of questions, lots to learn.....
