Title: Still not running right ?
Post by: A7RXY on September 24, 2009, 07:55:09 PM
Had the carb rebuilt and fitted, but still will not rev above 6500 rpm.
So far we have changed the fuel filter cleaned all the lines out and had the carb rebuild. We have spoken to Tim at RX motors, and after checking that all plugs are sparking we should disconnect the exhaust to see if that is blocked, we will try this tomorrow.
   Any other ideas ?

Fuel delivery pressure if you\'re under load on the motorway? (EDIT>>>In a lower gear I suppose or you\'d be doing 150!! silly me).I don\'t think it needs much fuel just to rev at standstill so not fuel pressure problem if you are stationary?
Obviously air filter could be clogged but I\'m sure you will have checked this.
Is full movement available on the distributor vacuum control and are the dizzy cap contacts and rotor arm intact (not eroded away)? Plug leads good and wholesome?

We have just ordered new rotor arm, cap and leads, as I think they are all original as I have never change them , and should be here by Tuesday, so will let you know...........
David do you still have Mazda exhaust on yours or have you fitted an after market one, if so where did you get it from.

No, I was lucky and got a stainless system from a scrapper I broke. It\'s a \'Double S\' from somewhere in the West Country (if you fancy a new one I think they have a website still).
But have you seen \'skinned\' posting on here today? He\'s in Bangor North Wales and breaking that Series 1 that he got from Widnes. Anyway he says he\'s got a complete stainless system....should be interchangeable S1 to S3.
That\'s a very good point by the way. If you\'ve still got the original front end exhaust and it\'s fractured through in the usual place, right inside the front bit, then I wouldn\'t give 2pence for its exhaust performance. (Thinking about your revving problem).
Finally I\'ve got 2 sets of fitting instructions already scanned into my computer. One set for a Janspeed, one set for a \'Double S\'. They\'re both giving more or less identical instructions. No probs sending straight to you if you give me an email address.

Cheap full exhaust on ebay, manifold to tailpipe, owner says it\'s stainless, but it\'s got surface corrosion!Does stainless rust, suppose it depends on the grade of steel?[last time i looked 99p]

Yes, that is like the stainless ones are when they\'ve been under the car for quite a while, though the ebay one is collect only from Scotland. (Plus it does look a bit scabby when you see it all on the bay).

The boxes are a better grade stainless than the pipework, stainless is quite brittle so the pipework is lower grade to give some flexability in the system.
Ive got a full system on my old car, let me know if you are interested.
