Title: Hi - looking for my first Rotary
Post by: mechadaniel on September 13, 2009, 12:46:39 AM
Hi

I joined the forum here a few years ago when I was looking at getting a Caterham 7, was thinking of getting a rough one and putting a 13b in it:)

Never happened as I fell in love with a new 7:Giggle

However, two years on, a blasted minicab rear ended me on the M4, sending me straight into the central barrier, and it will take a long time get the 7 back on the road. Work rented me a Focus for the last few weeks (which is driving me nuts), so I thought it is a great chance to get an RX7 for a while and find out what all the fuss is about:Thumbsup!

Problem is, I\'ve been looking for a Turbo II for a couple of weeks with no success, I thought I was going to get lucky with Bretts car which was on Ebay, but the sale got pulled.

So, if there is anyone out there with a FC, who has thought about selling, but can\'t be bothered with the hassle of advertising, dealing with tyre kickers etc, for the right car I\'\'ll be beating down your door, cash in hand:)

Or if anyone knows anyone who might be selling, please get them in touch.

Thanks
daniel

Oh really? Yeah, have had my eye on that one as a fall back, problem I have with it is that it is a bit standard  - if I am going to have a rotary for 6 months it should be a fire breathing monster:chat

Yeah, I saw that ad yesterday and wondered if he would still want to sell it whole - problem is I added up the price of just what he would get if he broke it. But would love to hear more about the car if it is still in one piece.

How comes there are so many cabriolets for sale and few coupe? And how does the price compare - for example take an identical quality coupe and a cabriolet, which would be worth more?

Think the cabs are worth more for some reason. Not sure why but they seem to hold their value more.

Hmmm, OK, thinking about getting a cab as there are a few tidy UK ones about - I lived in Japan for 9 years, so I have seen just how the exports that end up here were driven:rollin

I think i\'d rather have a rotary that was driven hard.

I\'m also looking for an FC there really is not many about.

Pistonheads
Flebay
Driftwork
Are were most pop up along with this forum obviously .

There is this one on Ebay that is pretty low mileage:

As I only want the car to cover my normal one being off the road for a few months, I don\'t want to pay over the odds and lose out when I try to sell it - anyone got a guess at what would be a good price for a low mileage cab?

OK, still trying to puzzle out what is a fair price.

The white cab suggested to me above (That caused a ruckus on Driftwork when offered for more than double than it sold for the day before on Ebay), sold originally on Ebay for 1,400.

This low mileage cab was on ebay last week starting at 1500 and didn\'t get any bids:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1990-MAZDA-RX7-TURBO-YELLOW_W0QQitemZ270453194601QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item3ef8443f69&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Yet the the people selling cabs local to me won\'t go below 2,400:3Confused

So is this just wishful thinking on the sellers side?

With Cab\'s, the quality of the roof and the bodywork affect the price mostly, along with lower mileage engines.

Realistically a roof replacement will easily cost you £500+ so you should factor that in if you have the tell tale splits along the sides  (Original Mazda vinyl roof is £600 delivered to the UK, and half that again to fit it)

The cab\'s have stronger floor pans, so suffer a lot less from rot underneath that tends to spell the end of the coupe\'s - or at least require a new floor welded in.

Finally, being heavier, they tend to get ragged less, as they aren\'t ideal for track or strip so will usually have had an easier life (except mine perhaps :Giggle)
