Title: Engine cleaning
Post by: BinoX on September 12, 2009, 10:55:46 AM
Allo all :)

I\'ve not long had my RX7 engine apart and after seeing that there doesn\'t seem to be any damage to the rotors or housings it\'s time to give it a good clean so I can check properly and prepare for a rebuild.

So my questions are simple.

1) What should I use to get the carbon off the rotors and the little bit in the rotor housings
2) What should I use to generally clean the insides (and outsides) of the components and housings etc

Thanks in advance

I used carb cleaner on the rotor, worked fine. Also any sortof parts cleaner on the components should do the job.

Give the parts a good soak and use a brush to get all the carbon off. You could use any old side or apex seal to clean out the groves they sit in

Don`t use anything harsh to clean the carbon off i.e wire brushes etc, the rotors should have a gold coating on them, I`ve been advised that its better to keep this on.
