Hi guys, just an idea here: I\'m finally getting started on the FC vert I\'ll be doing up and running shortly and I work for Spax.
So, logic means that I want to get them to start producing coilovers - despite me working for the company, they\'re not prepared to do a 1 off coilover for me (fair play, there\'d be no money in it)...
...Buuuuut, if I can get a group of people who\'re interested together (about 15/20) I\'ll get a coilover kit produced and we can all have availability. Might even be able to secure all forum users a club discount?!
If this is not wanted/questionable/a problem then can one of the forum moderators let me know: papercutout @ gmail.com. I\'ve looked through the gen2 section mods and no one has a contact email up to ask!
Any questions - just ask. As we don\'t produce a kit yet, I\'ll struggle to answer questions about them, but the engineers would use my car as a testbed.
So might as well start a list:

The very is heavier so will need a different spring setup to that of the coupe :( plus I would only think people with track cars will want coilovers as they are ment for tracks and not roads, maybe if you were able to get a group buy discount for adjustable shocks and springs, might be good for that :)
The vert being heavier is easy to get round - the very has a set of different, higher poundage. The dampers are plenty adjustable (28 stages, and trust me, there\'s a difference) that we\'d not need to change the damper valving to cope with the weight difference, you just set it to a different setting.
First off - coilovers are what I want, hence why they\'ll be done. If there\'s plenty of interest in dampers and springs, we could sort that later - its easy to do, just copy standard damper/strut pattern then shorter stroke and dampers. Plenty of people use coilovers on the road - see how popular they are on here! Seen several sets used. James would run them on the road, Pete does, Phil does, I think you do, me etc etc. And thats just a few names from the top of my head!
The problem: Spax do NOTHING damper wise for the RX7 in general atm.
The aim: get enough people interested to produce a kit.
The question: who\'s interested?
there will be loads of people interested - its when you put a price we all run off !
how much monies you looking at? if theyre more than £600 or so i can see there being too much point because of the praise HSD\'s get. If they are cheaper i may be interested but not untill xmas time im affraid mate. Good luck though!
Also I dont see where youve got your argument from mitch. Coilovers are pretty much adjustable shocks and springs joined into one. They do the same job but theyre much easier to fit and adjust. I think with FC becoming big in the drift scene too coilovers would be a good idea seeing as most drift cars are absolutely decked which is not something ive seen too much over on shocks and springs
I\'ll speak to the engineers again come monday RE interest in verts vs non, although I suspect 1 kit would be made.
I\'ll also try to get a guidline price, but I doubt I\'ll be able to until I get a stock f+r damper from the car to lend them to get designs from.
you can have my stock ones if you want?
yup itas price dependent for me mate as i willbe buying hsd from dw come time otherwise
First off, before I get me or Spax into trouble I\'m not trying to compete directly with HSD or Driftworks here, but as an enthusiast with a car, and in the fortunate position I\'m in, I\'m trying to do the best I can to help me and you guys. For purely selfish reasons :D
Double checked with the engineers - it\'d be 1 set of dampers, 2 different spring rates to cover vert and coupe. Head of engineering is in Germany atm so some things I can\'t run past him.
Dthebuk - I\'ll pull a front and a rear off mine this week and lend them to the engineers. Its things like bracketry and complicatedness that dictate price but I\'m damn sure we\'ll do them cheaper than the HSD\'s Most of our coilovers are £500-600 + VAT, the HSD\'s are £745 inc. The one thing we don\'t do is camber adjustment, which is a PITA.
Does anyone know what sort of drop range the HSD\'s cover - e.g. 30-70mm drop.
Anyone know if there will be any difference between series 3,4 and 5 FC suspension? I heard some of the S5 knuckles are different etc while Phil (Flikstrr) was trying to get more lock on his FC...
If people are genuinely interested, feel free to call me at Spax (01869 244771, Ben) and discuss things, and I\'ll get a list of names and numbers. The above question is very important though!
fair dooze mate, the stock ones are litrally sitting in my garage and i could probs drop them off to you in oxford on sunday (im going past).
Not sure about the knuckles being different, though if they work with the same coilovers.
....and series 3 is an fb :P
Yeah? That\'d be fantastic if you would mate, be good to catch up with you too! You\'re going to be in the 320 lpg yeah? Drop me a call.
What series is yours? S5 or 4? Ah thats cool about the S3, couldn\'t remember! I\'ve not seen anything specific when people have been selling coilovers, people don\'t seem to specify what series, so its probably generic.
yea its cool, don\'t know if ill be able to do a direct delivery but if anywhere near the A43 and im on it. Yup still in the 320. unfortunately the reducer (i don\'t even know what that is) has just died so not currently lpg, soon will be though.
Well for UK cars, EGi\'s (N/A) were series 4 and TII\'s were Series 5. You can usually tell by the rear lights (though s5 lights on an s4 are a common mod) or black bumper trim around the car.
hell yeah I\'d be up for a set for under £600...
Camber adjustment would be great though, or at least the ability to run after market camber plates. If you\'re looking at a big drop you\'re going to need to be able to adjust things like toe and camber (i\'m sure you know that though ;))
