Interesteing to find out what fuel everyone uses in there 7\'s?
I ask as I use super and thought that was the best however my father and another mate use regular.
Just interested to know what you guys use?
V-Power all day long!
I even got a Special Red and Silver V-power card!
On the back it read \'Chump\' :Hammer
Although I did get an £8.50 fuel voucher the other day...but then how much must I have spent to get that :Hammer:Hammer
Incidently....my dad said he definately noticed the difference between the V-power and normal in his BMW
I certainly wouldn\'t ever use anything less than Super, at the very least.
I only run mine on V-Power, because that\'s what it was mapped on :)
Whether it make s adifference to a \'normal\' car is debateable - it all depends on the ECU really, and how clever it is. On my 200SX that\'s run by the automotive equivalent of Babbage\'s difference engine, it just stops it detting it\'s tits off on the stock ECU at 15PSI, whereas on on my other half\'s \'teg that\'s controlled by voodoo, the ECU is clever enough to compensate, and there\'s a noticeable difference between running dishwater and super yummy juice.
The big thing here is that the octane rating of fuels, well pump fuels, is very unstable. So if you are choosing a garage with super on offer....make sure the garage is a busy one and that you see people regularly filling up with super otherwise it will have gone off! Making it no better than 95 other than costing you more!
Your car has been tuned to run 99 octane fuel. Don\'t use Tesco\'s.
Use Shell V power.
Regards
Carl

That\'s a good point...I was always told with my racing bike not to leave fuel in the tank too long...otherwise you\'ll get detonation

some tesco\'s has 99 RON (oxford) so is that still a no no due to it being branded tesco eventhough the octane is still 99?
I run mine on Tesco 99 with no problems, its what was in the car when Carl mapped it also
Edit: Although when Tesco isnt availiable i go with V Power with no problems
I run my rex mostly on tesco 99 but will use v power now and again depending on where the nearest garage is. I can\'t say i notice any difference when using v power, but i used to run an audi tt 225bhp (don\'t laugh!) and i really noticed the difference when using vpower with that.
i always used super in mine because thats what i was told...id love to use V-Ppwer but there is nowhere near me that pumps it...shocking
It all depends on what ecu you run & what it has been set to run on!!
Mine was mapped for std unleaded as that was all I could get localy at the time, but always went for the super unleaded instead of the 95 ron, but now there is a Shell I use nothing but the v-power! I actualy see a bit more fuel econamy when using shell too, not sure if it\'s in my head or not though???
Kris: There is a shell in Johnston matey ;) not cheep though :( prob about 10 miles from brawdy
Jono
I always try to use V-Power, I\'ve got one of Charlie\'s "chump cards" too lol. Getting harder to do, though since Shell closed both their local petrol stations a couple of years back and now I have to make a detour on the way to work 15 miles away to find one.
If I can\'t get to a Shell garage I use the BP Ultimate, which is supposed to be only a bit lower octnae than V-Power, and I have to say I\'ve noticed no difference between the two in any way
Either Tesco 99 or V-Power for me!

99 octane Tesco fuel Vs Shell Vpower 99 octane, Tesco fuel is blended differently to achieve the higher Octane they use 5% Ethanol in the blend, which infact you will be running slightly leaner with this fuel.
interesting.. where\'d u get this info?
slightly off topic but what about filling with 95 RON and using octane booster in a can?
Octane boost has been proven to have zero effect. There have been loads of scientific tests on the benefits of additives, and all have said that they will do bugger all....well other than rape your wallet!
i have to travel 20 miles to my nearest shell garage :rollin :(
what i would like to know is what would happen if you used "normal" 95ron fuel, ie more det/knock, run leaner???
Shell Vpower only for me, mapped for it + vpower card gives me money off.
Karl, more likelyhood of det/knock with lower octane fuel

What you are saying is quite misleading, octane booster increases both the ron and mon rateing of fuel. Whever it is value for money or not is up to the user.
Also i\'d like to point out that when it says xxron on the pump that\'s what you get minimum as i understand it chances of getting old fuel from the pump is like zero.
I disagree....when the fuel companies receive their fuel they are buying anywher upto 60,000 litres at a time. The shelf life of fuel isnt very long at all....most places I have found have said that petrol will start to go stale after 3 months. I will claify this tomorrow if either Shell or BP are willing to answer this question :)
So as said, if the fuel station has a rough few months then the fuel will have started to go stale. Plus Im not quite sure what happens when different octane ratings are mixed...another question to ask tomorrow!! As there will always be dregs at the bottom of the tank.
interesting reads... so given that v-power has a slower turnover.. for all we know it could of gone stale by the time it comes out of the pump?
I try and use V-power but really just go for whatever 99 octane fuel is available either tesco or v-power, will this do any harm carl?
I use v-power with slight premix of 2 stroke ! smells like a scrambler on steriods ....
I use tesco 99 and quite happy with it. I do have to drive 15 miles just to get there but its the nearest super unleaded to me. The nearest shell is probably more 25 miles away.
Mine running on Tesco 99, there are no shell places near and the only 1s I have seen, the V power is an extra 10P, I did try it, but didn\'t feel any difference, although im pretty sure most of it is just burning in the exhaust till I get the e-manage in hehe
I read a fuel test in banzia some time ago and shell got the most ign advance before d.e.t about 14 degress more than others the tesco 99 ron came out with 94 ron and they recon you\'re better off with super unleaded 97 ron .......

95 ron as thats all thats local to me but will be using better fuel when my leave ends and i have to go back to work

Just don\'t go on boost much and you should be ok, the RX is a high performance sports car and does need high performance fuel
On a stock ecu, unleaded is fine, you will have less power with super unleaded, very noticebly so.
E85 is best though,105 octane at 102p/litre,car does need mods for it.

Where can I get the E85 from btw? which garage does that? I havn\'t seen it sold anywhere :(
Yea i was wondering that :-)
I know you can get 102 stuff from BP, but havn\'t found an E85 garage yet :(

When i do go out i just casual drive, i need to get used to the car before i start putting my foot down as i\'ve only had it for 2/3 weeks.
I usually fill up with V-Power, 99 in the UK, 100 over here.
It\'s more expensive here though! Works out about £1.26 a litre!!

That isnt too far off the price here
Damn really? It\'s been a couple of months since I\'ve been back, was only about the £1 mark when I last filled up.
Bugger. :(
I use Tesco 99 as my local Shell were kind enough to scam my card, although this thread now has me worried.
Seems i opened a can of worms here lol

Morrisons sell it, but not every one does. Go on to their website and it tells you what stations have it.
V Power for me for low boost and V Power mixed with race fuel for high
im sure i read a thread where they said E85 is quite corrosive so need different tanks for it or fuel lines?
how do you know if E85 is safe for stock fc/fd/fe tanks and lines etc?
morrison link for E85

equally worried now :o
Anyone got a copy of the Banzai review they could scan in at all? :2eek
It will eat away through stock tanks and lines eventually.
Tim tuns E85 with great results

Yeah, you don\'t need to run an intercooler with E85 :D
