Title: Question about Apexi Power FC
Post by: mark-ashley on September 02, 2009, 11:43:18 AM
If i buy an apexi power FC, do i really need to buy the commander also..

I\'m never likely to tinker with it as i will definately break it, will only have it mapped or adjusted by someone who knows what they are doing....

I know it gives you a ton of information which would be really useful to someone who knew what it all meant !

My other concern is that living in Brixton, the general parked car rule of thumb is the less on show the better.....

better to have to commander so you can get an accurate picture of water temps/intake rather than watch the standard not so good gauge which by the time it says waters hot its too late

I\'ve got an aftermarket gauge for the water fitted but i hear what your saying, commander will be much more accurate, sod it, i\'ll just buy the whole thing, one on here for 500, hope it doesn\'t go !

OK...

So the serial number for car is FD3S-3xxxxxx

Which controller do i need, got the following from a previous post:

FD3S - 96-98 RX-7 old version
FD3S2 - 92-95 RX-7 old version
FD3S3 - 99+ RX-7 old version

FD3S4 - 92-95 RX-7 new version
FD3S5 - 96-98 RX-7 new version
FD3S6 - 99+ RX-7 new version

However, my car is listed as a 1994 Type-R and the above says an FD3S is a 96-98 RX...

I\'m confoozed, please help, want to make sure i buy the right thing !!!!

Hi Mark, the FD3S number mentioned above are the Apexi part numbers, not to be confused with you cars chassis number.

For your 1994 FD, you want an Apexi PFC with a serial number starting with either FD3S2 or FD3S4

Martin

The early model FD3S2 allowed extra chips to be installed, no features that you would use Mark, so either model will do you fine.

i started by just getting a power fc then decided i really wanted the commander aswell, helps you keep track of many parameters aswell as water temp.

im not sure on the total list but it includes

water temp
air temp
injector duty
boost
knock
battery voltage
speed
ignition timing

The temp gets to 80 pretty quick and the fan kicks in at about 91 bringing it back to 89, around 85 is standard while pottering along.

The commander is great for the info it provides and you;ll find yourself looking at it all the time, comparing intake temps with injection duty and boost levels.  If I park mine somewhere a bit iffy I simply take the commander from its holder and pop it in the glove box until I return, no problemo :)
