Title: EGI / T2 Dash
Post by: j3d1 on August 24, 2009, 10:09:30 AM
Just wondering if there are any differences between the stock EGI dash, lights, switches, clocks, displays etc and those from a T2?

Thanks

I know that the TII has a turbo pressure gauge in there and the EGi doesn\'t... funnily enough lol

Thanks

For UK models - yes

The basic ones:

Rev gauge goes to 9K on the EGI and 8K on the T2 IIRC

EGI got a voltmeter, T2 gets a boost gauge.

You will also probably find that the EGI is Series 4 wiring and T2 is Series 5 - not sure if the round plugs on the back of the gauge clusters are the same or different.

the clocks are physically smaller on the TII aswell. And so are the shapes of the smaller guages

The dash will fit staright in.  Do you want to fit a TII dash in a EGI?
The wiring is different and especially as theres a difference between anything pre 88 and post \'89 as all the plug connectors are different. Is there a reason why you need to have the info? just might help in seeing what you have to do to get one to fit.

Well i\'m just trying to gather information at the moment so I have somewhere to start (hence my other questions regarding subframe / running gear differences).

I currently have an \'89 EGI minus engine and gearbox and will most likely be putting in a T2 engine and box once I have fixed up the shell / got some spare money / finished my other project. Basically I\'ve started to strip the the interior to find out what condition its in and have come across some seriously bodge spec MOT welding (fixes) so am probably going to gut the car and start from scratch. Whilst I\'m at it I will be upgrading and changing bits as money and time allow. The information I\'ve found on here and elsewhere on the web is good but so far when i\'ve gone looking for specifics I seem to have found they\'re either not known or not listed. I\'ll probably be back with more questions as I go, thanks so far!

BTW, is there much more information availalable if / when I become a full member?

Well I went from a S4 to S5 TII and I had to reloom the entire car, let alone go from EGI to TII. All the plugs are different and would take a lot of work, trust me I have been there!! If you are serious about putting a TII lump in there then its best you have a TII loom and do the job properly, you will need to do this to install the engine loom side at the very least. Its easier than you think and will be easy if the car has to be stripped down for welding. Its the perfect chance and then you can really have a good go at it. I do have a loom for a TII but its a cab one so will have a few differences. Make sure when you get an engine that you get the loom, plenty of coupes on here being broken.

Become a full member mate,it makes sence and loads more at your finger tips inc my build on the white FC in converting from S4 to S5

ok cool thanks, I am planning on becoming a full member as my other project involves a rotary engine as well :D.

I was wondering where you guys kept your projects section!

Look if want I have the TII loom complete with fuse box and I can include all the engine bits you will need, I have a dash as well complete with loom. The only difference in the coupe and cab is more at the back end, this unplugs anyway either side of the drivers and passenger footwells and is a dam sight easier to rip one of those out of a car than the entire loom that goes all around the engine bay. Its a pig to get out and still keep all the clips and stuff. The only differences you will have on the loom is the roof bits and they are easy to just leave off. As far as the dash, and from the fuse box forward its all the same. I can send you everything for about £100. £20 of that will be in postage for sure. Dont forget that will be all the solonoids,AFM,switches, relays etc etc. The whole lot. I even have a set of coupe TII dash clocks as well with the harness but they will be a bit extra as the wiper switch works really well and are hard to get hold off working. You are more than welcome to pick up.

Just to add that it will be the dash loom as you dont need the dash as you just swop the dash loom over. I can do the lot for £80 delivered in that case. Its out the car already.

think everyone knows my number anyway   07961451422

The re-loom bit is a tougher job than you might think. Easy if going from the same variant but go from different years, different types then there is more involved if you want to do the job properly.
Also to note that if you do get a harness then you must have the gearbox/battery loom as well, thats also different.  Its like anything you can mate anything together and especially electrical wiring but it depends on your standards and what you think will do for now but come back to bite in a few years time when wiring colours dont match up etc etc.

One easy option you could do is just go to the scrappy and buy some good connectors or buy them new and just re-terminate the new connectors but you will need to match all the wires correctly.  The engine loom though you will need at the very least but you could go the full hog and re-loom yourself. Most of the TII engine looms are not very good anyway and degrade with heat especially the O2 wire and around that area.
