Guys & Gals,
After a half day on the dyno at Owen Developments (Kingston Bagpuize) where my other race engines have been mapped and tuned, I have a new race engine designed, ported and assembled by Carl.
The first short motor produced good power at 6-7000rpm and 8.5-10000rpm and above but strange things were going on at 7-8000rpm and of course max power was too high.
Carl diagnosed the exhaust, and brought some inlet lengths to try out as you\'ll appreciate he doesn\'t usually get unlimited access to dyno facilities.
At this stage I will say that I was unconvinced of the exhaust changes Carl requested and implemented, notably because this was the same exhaust I\'d used on my previous WGT PP engines. As an amateur engineer I thought he\'d just overported and gone too big - and told him so!
However, after two runs testing out the optimum intake lengths and then baselining the exhaust changes with the old intake system I had to eat some humble pie. :spank
The power curve is absolutely linear like it\'s been drawn on with a ruler, the power is delivered seamlessly, and it comes in at the right place.
The final figure - Over 300bhp with a shift light at 9500rpm and a rev limit of 10000rpm. A significant uplift over where I was, and remember our current technical regulations limit the power you can achieve from our setup intentionally.
This means I have bought the car another few years service against the Cosworths, M3\'s and V12\'s I\'m now racing against, so we\'re all chuffed.
I should thank Carl not because it was a fabulous PR freebie (it wasn\'t) but because he listened when I pushed very hard to get it 100% when most sane people would have said "that\'ll do", and put up with me saying terribly patronising and nobby things like "I know what \'right\' feels like on the track and it isn\'t there"..
He drove to Mark\'s dyno and spent hours there too not because he had to but because he wanted to.
Our competitive natures are certainly not aligned as he\'s seemingly just not that competitive(!), and I told him regularly that he should tidy his bloody shop, and that he spends too much time talking to people he should eject from the place rather than earning, but as I said - credit where it\'s due, this is the best race engine I\'ve seen on the dyno and I\'m fired up to take it to the German Touring Car meeting on the 6th September for it\'s first outing to see what I can do with it.
The current entry sports 12 people on the grid of 32 who could potentially win outright, and thanks to this motor I\'m landing on that list too..
As people who know me will appreciate I\'m not given to bullsh*t thinly disguised sales pitches, but he\'s delivered to an exacting level and because of that it would have been wrong not to make it public.

That\'s great. Always good to have profesionals around you. Good luck Stacy.
Here\'s the incar video from this engine\'s debut, the DTM support race by the Racing Saloons - unfortunately the clutch popped as I rolled to the start line so some excitement at the start, and I started clutchless and half a lap down..

I heard you had a water leak from the engine, has that been fixed?
Hi,
Yes Carl took the car back after the race to sort that and I\'m due to collect next Tuesday before I go away, so we can finish the prep before the next event..
S.
That has to be some of the most exciting in car footage i have seen. It would have boring if you didnt stall on the line.
What spec is the car?
Hi,
I\'ve done boring, on balance it\'s underrated.. ;)
It was a standard mint shell purchased from RX Motors many years ago, and I then spent a full week scraping all the underseal and sound deadening from it.
It\'s seam welded, custom cages multipoint weld in cage, high ratio steering box, nylon bushed in the most part, roll centres and all pickups are optimised within the regs, Alcon fully floating discs at the front with Gartrac fabricated alloy hubs, fully floating rear hubs, lsd, quaife type 9 5spd dog \'box (useful when you have no clutch..), AP clutch, light flywheel, bias pedal box, farringdon data logging, hidden alloy battering rams front and rear, bespoke rad, lots and lots of detailed modifications.
Aside the bonnet (fibreglass) the car is all steel, and still runs all the glass as required by the regs.

Fanstastic driving Stacy, hope to see more in the future.
That was a fantastic mix of driving, action and music!! Well done you drove superbly and boy did you real those cars in, you made it look too easy.
Very kind, but as I\'m fond of saying - it\'s always easier to look good when you have the fastest car.
Well, it may not be the fastest, but it\'s a pretty useful little package..

and i thought you just had a really good stereo in it :Thumbsup!
interesting about the steering box, who makes that, i have had several first gens and the steering is the one thing that puts me off.
Thats why i went for a kit car in the end
Fantastic, a pleasure to watch :D

Nobody makes it as far as I know, mine was a left hand drive unit left over from the TWR days lying around a garage in the back arse of Scotland.. IIRC I had to Special Delivery a number of pound notes for the guy to send it on.
Needed some engineering to get it in, but it\'s now 2.5 turns lock to lock.
I could do with another for the Aus car we\'re putting together, but suspect we\'ll need to sort another solution for that I\'m afraid. Understand some US boxes were much faster than UK std.

well, it\'s not nice about your comment!
do you know that if wasnot having for a Scot\' who brought in the RX7 series one into saloon car/ british touring cars in the early days of the 80\'s and I bet that your back arse will never sitting on the RX7 or winning it!.;)
Eh?
Read it again mate, I said the place was the back arse of Scotland, as there are back arses of England, meaning the middle of nowhere - not that Scotland was a back arse.
Funnily enough I\'m quite educated on the FB\'s motorsport history, and even more funnily enough my arse has sat in the car, but hilariously it wouldn\'t win anything nowadays - my car is actually a much higher spec..

ahh! the clue\'s there and the TWR\'s from near Ballater is it? and the seller of the steering rack love to smell the pound notes before handed over the rack to you?
I\'ve never been to Ballater, and I haven\'t the faintest idea what you\'re talking about I\'m afraid.
S.
That\'s okay so am I.;)
My hovercraft is full of eels. :WaveBye
Devils always in the details, Sticking to your guns and wanting to get it perfect is always good, but that attitude has cost me lots of £ and time rebuilding my engine :p
Quite so, but in fairness I am not paying for the engine rebuild.
The problem you have is that such things may well win races with constant intensive care, but it\'s not the way to win championships - you need to be exacting I\'m afraid.
S.
Just read this back and the statement "constant intensive car" is probably a bit unfortunate - didn\'t mean to imply we were doing this currently..
There was a leak, a minor one, but any leak means we have to keep an extra eye on levels which can be tough in a multi-race day, and as a point of reference the underside of the car is pretty much as clean as the topside - including shiny white suspension. This is so we can monitor any leaks before they get serious. Steady state leaks however minor get in the way of this obviously.
This wasn\'t a quantity that you\'d associate with say, a trapped water seal, and in any case as I said - it\'s been taken back to remedy.
S.
can vouch for carls commitment. His work to continually progress my FC through this seasons drifting has been fantastic.. saw your car there while some work was being done on mine.
I\'ts extremeely tidy dude. :)
FlikstRR is yurs the green FC that was at carls bout 3 weeks ago?
Can a steering rack be fitted?
Hi,
No, all the series I have run in, or intend to run in, specify a production arrangement to be retained.
Once you have optimized the system it aint so bad.
