Title: Rear lights
Post by: 88GT-R on April 27, 2004, 04:50:22 PM
I know that this is the wrong forum, and Mr Moderator will probably move it but, has anyone got a spare set of S5 rear light clusters. ie the round reflector ones? Mine are crappy rectangular type.

Cheers,

John

the car is at someones house which looks like a scrap yard.his name is oscar give him a call about the rad as he may still have it. the car was put in as part ex but the engine was out already but most of the bits came with the car. car has only done 55,000 and looked in very good nick but he wanted too much fir it as it was so i stripped most of the body work off. his number is 07860850756 cheers mark .

blimey - so you have been a busy boy then :)

i have mailed him - but i might give him a ring later

you didnt notice if it had the leather seats in did you ?

what bits have you taken ?

i keep thinking that it would be cheaper to buy another rx as a spares car - just no where to keep one

thanks for the number though

I\'m guessing the bonnet\'s gone, if not drop me a PM as I may be interested (I\'ve already got an ally bonnet, but a spare can\'t hurt :p )

don\'t do it! You\'ll only miss her when she\'s gone!

OK so you do incur some costs with Rex ownership and things go wrong, (I\'m looking down the barrel of circa £2500 at the moment for work that needs doing) but its all worth it when you put your foot down!

After all, what\'s the alternative drive round in a Mondeo??? - Mark desperatly tries to bait Si with insults about his current mode of transport- :bandit

dont speak to me about mondeo\'s , i snapped the cambelt on the girlfriends about 5 weeks ago

so i had to buy here another car then - sheeesh - its all spend spend spend

and no money to do it with

if i sell it , then yes i will be very very sad - but i\'ll just stick the bike back on the road and use that

it just seem to be a calamity of probs at this moment in time :(

Tell me about it! I\'m also having to pay for my wedding in September (god knows where that\'s going to come from!!!). But Still not letting the Rex go, I\'ve put too much time & effort into that car!

If yours need work, you\'ll never get what you want for it, may as well do what you can youself and keep it off the road for a while, do the work gradually doesn\'t put huge holes in you bank account that way - just lots on little ones!

never tried welding before - i wonder if fully comp insurance covers me for acidentally tourching it ?

The mate I\'m working on the LHD with was saying he\'s thinking about buying a MIG welder, he used to do a bit of welding on his old XR2 when he was at uni, says it isn\'t too difficult once you get into the swing of it, best to practice on old bits of sheet metal first to get a feel for getting the lines straight!
Title: Rear lights
Post by: grinder on June 17, 2004, 10:36:27 AM
have just borrowed a MIG welder - so that helps :)

got loads of bits/scrap to practice on - so agin this is a start

i dont know how neat it needs to be though for the MOT - or are they just bothered about it being solding ?

its what to do first though - do i do the welding - or fix the rad ?

welding is free to thats a plus point - but both jobs are a biggie

i dont know - everything seems to be going against me at this moment in time

i need a rx7 group hug :D
Title: Rear lights
Post by: sadgoth on June 17, 2004, 10:43:59 AM
I\'m sure Si has a suitable Smiley, but consider this an RX7 Group hug!

How bad is the leak in the Rad, does it need replacing? If so, have a dig with the welder! I\'m not sure on the regs for the MOT, I suspect being a solid weld is far more important than how it looks, also once it\'s welded whack some waxoil on the underside and you won\'t be able to see if the weld looks a bit messy as long as everything that needs welding is done!
Title: Rear lights
Post by: grinder on June 17, 2004, 10:48:38 AM
the rad - the top has split on the plastic ( where the part number is ) - well its leaking out from under there - so its splattering anti freese all over the top of the engine - and its starting to run a bit warm now - very bad news - so that needs fixing

the welding - yeah i think im just gonna have a play - its just one is the front jacking point - so that could be interesting

and one of the other holes is a fair size and i can see wires thru it

so on that i assume i have to rip half the interior out

everything sounds like a big job and no time for it

cheer up mate i think i\'ve got a rad some were i\'ll pull it out and have a look at the condition of it. whens the next northwest meet. when you do the welding dont forget to disconect the battery otherwise you will blow the ecu up, that might just push you over cheers mark.

thanks matey - i spoke to the chap who is breaking the TII Cab and his has the same problem

the next meet is in 4 weeks time , but if you do have one im very happy to travel to pick it up

the welding - yeah thanks for that matey - i could picture the new thread in a few weeks

"ECU blown and how to remove foot shaped dent in drivers door"

thanks again guys :) :) :)

n ice to see a T11 thats not awaiting a rebuild. seeing you trying so hard at rotorstock to beat that red s3 got me back to working on mine again. The parts off sam are coming over from japan so soon as they come i will be coming over from wakefeild to stockport but if you need it earlier i only live near the M1/ M62 junction. or are you going to the thorsby meet next week (japs outdoors meet). let me now.
Title: Rear lights
Post by: grinder on June 17, 2004, 04:35:55 PM
the guy who kept beating me was the next door neighbour :(

according to autoroute you are about 66 miles away - so its not that bad at a push

where is this meet that you mentioned - is it towards lancs or more westly??

i could do with it sooner rather than later to be perfectly honest - as the car is off the road completly at the moment - and the welding can actually wait till sept when the MOT is due

im scared to use the car at the minute as if it gets hot - its panic time

BIG THANKS AGAIN though matey - i really really appreciate it

That\'s what happens when you drive into stationary objects!

Sorry Si, I know you\'ve been dying to have the car back but the opportunity to comment on the incident was too compelling!

Post by: scooby_si on June 18, 2004, 12:47:41 PM
it was not stationary i personally believe the barriers parents had done a very bad job of raising their evil but slightly solid :( barrier in that he never looked left or right b4 crossing the road so it was beyond my control i had to fek him up!!!! lol

yes, I can see the famous insurance explanation now: \'I ran into a stationary barrier coming in the opposite direction!\'
