Title: FTP lens mod
Post by: pdtaylor18 on August 20, 2009, 06:47:27 PM
Easy to do with a few basic tools, what I have done is convert some knackered FTP lenses into air scoops but yet still retain an element of the FTP lighting system. My headlights pop up anyway when I flash so this was a must do mod.

I tried the oven bit to soften the glue but i think they are glued permanently. The only option is to dremel and cut them out. Once the lenses are off you need to fill the outer \'guttering\' where the lenses sat in. I filled mine with filler and then painted satin black. I finished them off with some mesh and hey presto a scoop that will at least let air somewhere towards the filter. Something is better than nothing.

I was going to ask if those were aftermarket or a \'pete special\' :) they look really good and tie in well with the front mesh :D

You can sand the lens down and get rid of the laquer coating. Just use finer grades of sandpaper and finally polish the lens. I have revived many lenses that way to almost as new.

much higher, start with 240 and make your way all the way up to 3600 or so and then I finish it off with micromesh which goes up to 8000. Mirror finish. or just use anything up to 2000 or better and then use a polishing mop.
