Title: 97 FD selenoid into 96 FD?
Post by: michaelb on August 18, 2009, 06:45:15 PM
Hi All

I have a 96 FD.  It has the all-in-one solenoid box.  Does anyone know if the solenoid (the all-in-one box) form a 97 FD will fit into my car? Any mechanics?

Regards,
Michaelb

Yes it will fit. All series 7 (1996-1998) boxes are interchangeable

Many thanks for that

Is this something I could do my self with car tools?  I am having problems getting the stuf fitted by the mechanic I use - he seems to be very busy..

Many thanks for your offer

At this stage Kerim at Powergains is not 100% sure whether the box or the 2 solenoids next to the plenum packed up so I am trying to negotiate with the parts owner if I can first buy the 2 solenoids and he keeps the box for me for a week in case the 2 solenoids which control the boost will not fix the issue.  I have basically lost boost from 0.8 to 0.4 bar but we could not find any boost leaks and the pressure seemed fine..

So that is the story but I might take you up on the offer, how much would you want for your troubles mate?

hmm. In my limited experience, when my solenoid black box failed, it threw an error code on the ecu and thats how we tracked it down. Similar story though - boost went down to 0.3 bar and the car occasionally went into limp mode. Ive got a pair of boost solenoids from a 92-95 car that you can try if you like (iirc, they are the same as 96-. Its just the black box that is different).
I wouldnt want anything as its not a particularly time consuming job

That would be fantastic re the 2 solenoids, if mine packed up then I could buy then from you, shall I e-mail you my address and I cover the post or should I get to you and try them on with your help?  How far are you from Crouch End N8 ?  Are you in Tomorrow afternoon? Incidentally I have Apexi PFC so the error code would not show up I don\'t think...

I cant post anything at the moment dude so you would have to swing by and grab them im afraid. Im in Harrow - HA3 which is about 11 miles according to google maps. Dunno if you still have my number 07595918063

And yes you wouldnt get a code because of the apexi.
