Title: those dodgy sellers/tuners - hayward rotary...
Post by: batman on August 17, 2009, 08:45:04 PM
have caught them out again ........nothing slips past them

went to carls today for a map, coffee, sarcasm and a looksy at my blue beast from the start called 10 ish down at 1200 straight into the garage where carl jeff and mike got straight onto my car looking listening for problems.
found some home plumbing a little wrong . corrected
moved some pipe work to a safer location .
sorted a rather over fueled lumpy idle to smooth .
re fitted a host of parts even from his own car to get mine working .
yes thats right his own car !
then jeff and carl took it for a semi map. but couldnt set it up fully as suprise suprise . the dodgy turbo i got :Nono! wasnt the only problem the and i quote " hks manifold " is actually a chuffin tea strainer has more holes than a sieve and blows badly so no proper map .
and before the excuses start like" i started the car without a map and i damaged the turbo" !!!! explain this one how i managed to age and split metal ........
hmmm
but this is about a good job done not supposed club members selling crap stuff to other forum users to make a profit and dont give a **** about lieing .
like i said hayward to the rescue i know now what i need to get it right again after alot of help it idles better runs smoother and so so pleased with the coffee i had thanks mike .

really can see the whole ill do it myself or on the cheap and it will end up costing more . my advice haywards in the first place i think .

even got chance to see the lovely n/a gen1 running a 12a race car of stacy vickers . which has one two races now i might add top job the  cars so clean and engine looked very minimal but for two wins obviously just the ticket from hayward rotary.

wicked day will be in touch as soon as i have the new manifold in thanks again carl jeff and mike :cheers

LOL wowww Carl is giving good service to someone who will give him awesome exposure. What a suprise!

Shame he does not do that consistently for all customers hey? If only he gave my friend as much of a helping hand as he did you ;)

Be careful of believing what Carl says to you as my friend found out, was a bunch of LIES

Jaydee, Brian Ellis, Tim@RXmotors (Tim@RXmotors), Dragon, WGT are ahead on my list. By far

Oh pleeeease, stop trying to slag off Carl just because your mate had a bad experience.

I\'ve never had any problems with Carl, neither have many, many other people, just because your mate did doesn\'t mean it\'s the norm does it?

That is true. I said shame it is not applied consistently and I think you will find there have been a few people that have had problems with Carl, not just one.

Well my friends experience... here goes!!!

Well my friend got an engine from Carl and Carl tried mapping it. Suprise suprise he could not map the car, the reason? Well apparently he was having ignition problems etc and Carl said he was not able to map.
He did not understand this because his ignition etc seemed all fine.
I took him to JayDee (the jedi master :D) and guess what... the car is FINE.
Not one thing wrong with the ignition, mapped up to 0.9 bar without any ignition problems... which was the reason Carl could not map. Oh and Carl said convinently that he had an ignition set up that he could install for X amount.

After the service and excuses you gave him, you have got to be joking.
Especially after JayD managed to map it fully without the ignition problems that were restricting you from doing so... and once he bought an ignition set up off you then you would have been able to map it.

Hi Jurg,

Just want to mention that Stacy has an engine built by me in his car and last two races he won with it and also broke Oulton park lap record with it.
300hp flywheel,10,000rpm.
So I don\'t just talk, but I do indeed walk the walk as well, and we at Hayward Rotary have been along with Stacy and his crew looking after Stacy\'s car this year. Also Stacy himself has done a complete strip down and rebuild of the car over the winter.
I would go as far as to say that Stacy developed this car over the last 4 or 5 years and his ideas have been implemented by WGT to great effect. Also Stacy is a very good driver.
Regards
Carl

No excuses, the car must have had igniton problems when we were trying to tune it or I would not have said it.
Since i do not know who it is you are talking about then it is hard to defend, but I take my customers and our work very seriously and also am VERY honest in our work and diagnosis.
For all I know you friend might have even had bad fuel in the car.

i cant understand how certain people seem to have issiues with carl and hayward .if theres an issiue then he s always said come back let him have another go. or he\'ll sort the problem .
you will always get people that slag others off thats just life but its a shame when all they do is mouth off and never have the balls to go back and say ok what was the problem and let him fix it ?
i just suppose its easier to kick some one when there down and not letting them get up !!!!!!

"LOL wowww Carl is giving good service to someone who will give him awesome exposure. What a suprise!"

well credit where credit is due . never bull ....ted me like some never told me anything that isnt true if he s unsure he wont do it .sounds like my kind of attitude and business.a**

"Shame he does not do that consistently for all customers hey? If only he gave my friend as much of a helping hand as he did you ;)"

what do you expect if you publicaly make a point of slagging the guy off to a tea then i would help you either.

Be careful of believing what Carl says to you as my friend found out, was a bunch of LIES

well he must have lied about the plumbing being wrong on my car and lied about the safe ness of my map and lied about supplying car parts from his own vehicle and lied about the discount he gave me because i always recomend his work to others and shall we continue .......
carl go sit in the corner and think about what you did .....

and thanks very much again .

Lol try and pull the other one Carl. Are you for real that\'s the best you can come out with?
The ignition was not touched from the point when you said you could not map it because of ignition problems.
Took it to JayD who mapped the car fine, without adjusting anything at all. Why was JayD able to map and it and not yourself?
The part that makes it all look fishy is the fact that you said for X amount you could install a new ignition set up for him and then map it.

All I am saying is apply the same consistency to all your customers and not a selection of customers or those who spend the most money with you.

To be honest we expected JayD to have problems because we genuinely thought you were being honest about the ignition problems.
When Jay mapped it to 0.9bar he was a bit suprised the poor guy. He actually thought what you said may have been correct.

Allow me to state that I have only ever experienced integrity and genuine concern from Carl.  Ok, on a personal level he does sometimes annoy/upset people, but then who hasn\'t.  In business terms, he is a proffessional always and strives to help people and give them a 100% service.

Rzla - can you give us some more details ?  Maybe your friend has got the wrong end of the stick ?  Ignition breakup is a very big deal, and dealers have been critisized big time on here before for not spotting it and cars going pop.

Rzla, stop being such a drama queen, MRC is so past all these petit arguements. IME Carl is a great, down to earth bloke with massive RE knowledge & offers a very personal service. That doesn\'t detract from JD\'s or powergains awesomeness, it\'s just not fair to throw around accusations that could be detrimental to his business, especially when they aren\'t even your own experiences.

Lol ever asked yourself the question why does it generally happen to Carl?
I will ask my friend to come and say so for himself... but the thing you have forgotten is \'\'WARRANTY\'\' that has come with the engine Carl made him.

Nowhere in this thread did I state that he has not achieved anything. I am merely trying to get some answers off him to which he blatently refuses to respond to. Why?
I just want to know why when he mentioned the ignition being the restricitive aspect to his mapping of the car that another tuner was able to map?
To be frank if he had not said to my friend I can install an ignition set up for X amount, then he could map. But to me it seems like a ploy to get some more money which is to be honest disappointing because money does not grow on trees.

If you had the same experience believe me you would be asking the same questions.

And for the record if there was ignition break up JayD would not have mapped the car, that is without doubt. If there was a hint of ignition breakup Jay would have told him to he was not able to map until that got sorted.

J[/QUOTE]

Hmmm.

Always try to avoid these sort of threads, but I\'m constantly surprised at the number of people who have opinions on my car and I without talking to me and it does rather get up my nose.. The facts of the matter are thus;

I had many years of success with WGT which included 3 championships, many race wins and many more fond and amusing memories. I wasn\'t a one man band in the partnership, but neither it has to be said were they - together I think we were stronger than the sum of our parts for that period. I was certainly not a distant partner, and for example I note that one of my developments, on which there was initial disagreement, is now a regular WGT solution.

I think it\'s fair to say it was a learning period for all, but I was, and still am, surprised that there was not a queue of people at the door of WGT asking them for the same but in blue..  I am aware it sounds awful, but maybe the bar had been set too high.

However in 2008 the season did not go as well, we struggled to make the predicted power on a new engine to the new regulations and there were a handful of failures as the car became increasingly tired.

For numerous reasons I do not think it appropriate to post in open forums we took the decision to prepare the car entirely ourselves, and exactly that happened over the last Winter. This was a nut and bolt rebuild, repainted, reengineered and with lots of new thought. The car has set multiple lap records this year, and is regularly a few tenths per mile faster than it had been. We are back at the front and faster than we\'d ever been because of /our/ work.

At Cadwell Park this year the WGT engine suffered lower oil pressure, and in line with our philosophy we wanted to build it ourselves. Time was against us and with a shortage of trusted suppliers willing to assist in the timeframe we were up against it to get back out for the rest of the season without missing rounds.

I have known Carl for some years through his relationship with RX3 racer Dave Nixon. Carl offered to help oversee the build and I gratefully accepted, and he made sure the engine was put together properly.

Consequently while a home build it was to his spec, using his parts, and we raced at Oulton Park on Saturday setting a new lap record, and taking two wins.  I was particularly pleased with this as my RX7 competition albeit in a higher class, 13B racer Tony Ellis, had just come from WGT on the way through and they had found him some extra horsepower too.

In a hectic timeframe Carl offered to build a 13B motor for the rest of the season and given that this includes Silverstone Grand Prix (long straights), and the German Touring Cars at Brands it was a good time to step up a class and join Tony in class B with equal power.

Carl has done just this and taking it to my friend of many years to dyno it (Mark @ Owen Developments in Kingston Bagpuize) I was delighted to note that it has /all/ the power believe me.. It\'s an upgrade that\'s for sure. I am however running a bridge port spec exhaust which has seen one too many kerbs and the car was down at Carl\'s for him to make up a peripheral port spec exhaust - if it\'s done off the car I will be there for hours cutting and shutting and making it fit.

Once complete I will take it back to Mark for a final dyno, then that will be us hopefully for the remainder of the season.

So to be scrupulously fair to Carl he\'s shown me he can walk the walk in some strong competition. His engines have already won races, and I have the tools to do it again this season.

I can\'t comment on those with issues with him and have tried to avoid these discussions, but as I\'ve been sucked into it I can and should speak as I find.

He doesn\'t have the facilities of a WGT by a long margin, and for someone who\'s spark plugs and socket have their own cut outs in our tool box, a nose around Carl\'s bench is an adventure(I\'m still swearing at the thought of it!), but I\'ve come to trust my antennae over the years and believe he\'s honest and for me that goes a long way. I know that Dave Nixon thinks the same, and I\'ve learnt to trust Dave\'s judgement over the years too.

S.
p.s It\'s Stacy, not Stacey.

Unfortunately Gurj you have made me have to respond. I know you are looking out for your homeboy Carl who I have no problem with, in fact we even chat, but there was a simple reason why this car had breakup, nothing to do with ignition. I didn\'t even tell the owner what the problem was, I just fixed it, and made sure the owner was happy with how the car drove. And he called me the over the weekend and told me he is loving the car.

FYI the reason it would have been breaking up was due to the car running too Rich.
This is no refection on Carls abilities as a number of things could have caused this...ie...wideband reading wrong etc etc

Hi JayDee,

thanks for replying, but please be aware i have no afiliation with Carl whatsoever, he has never worked on any of my cars and i am not in regular contact with him regarding anything.

Was getting slightly annoyed with RZLA making claims but seemed daft not to get the person actually involved to make a comment ?

I have been at Carl\'s today for some general repairs to the engine, a non sequential turbo conversion, new exhaust and mapping session.

This was a last minute request as I am going back to the Nurburgring on Thursday and was not happy with the 7\'s health. I have spent the full day there with Carl, jeff and mike going crazy on my car to get it all done in one day. It\'s now bloody amazing! The journey home was so much fun :)

All I can say about Carl and his crew is that are a truly great bunch of enthusiastic knowlegable rx7 gurus. who have so far always been very honest and commited when performing any work on my 7.
Over the few years I have been modify cars it has always been very difficult to find some one I trust with my pride and joy. on this occasion I am very happy with their work! In fact after the drive home I have Rediscovered my love for my 7.

Thanks guys for all your help today, it is much appreciated!

One final comment .... Mike makes a great cup of coffee... Although it may take him 40 mins or so to boil the kettle :)

No worries at all

thanks for replying, but please be aware i have no afiliation with Carl whatsoever, he has never worked on any of my cars and i am not in regular contact with him regarding anything.

Was getting slightly annoyed with RZLA making claims but seemed daft not to get the person actually involved to make a comment ?

hope that clears that up dude
