Guys,

Been reading lots on this thread the last couple of nights and I guess you get these newbie questions all the time.

Anyway after hitting 25 last dec I have vowed to get a new motor by the end of the year. The budget will be about 6-7k. I have so far got 2/3rds of the way there inc selling my car.

Anyway I have been looking at the Honda Integra Type Rs and also after seeing an awesome white RX7 a couple of weeks ago have been seriously considering one. Judging by the ones on autotrader it would be one of about 1992 age with 50k on the clock.

Has anyone had experience with the Teg? Should I go for an RX? I understand there will be differences in running costs ie Teg is N/A and not bad on the mpg and Honda reliability whereas the Mazda is pretty low on the mpg but definitely faster and bigger grin factor.

Will I get a good condition one for between 6-7k? Would it be best to look for one with a rebuild on the engine? Also if you get a later bodykit can you change the front lights ie indicators etc that seem to be different on a 1992 to a 1995 version?

What are the RXs like to keep? Reliable? Expensive to maintain etc, I dont do much mileage as I catch the bus in the week so it would mainly be a weekend car.

Any thoughts would be great.

Cheers

i always say as a general rule of thumb, the faster a car, the more expensive the repairs ;)

Cheers for that.

Are there any common troubles/issues that you have with owning rotary motors? It seems like if there is anything wrong with the engine a rebuild is needed. Is this true? Is it costly?

I think all problems and issues are listed in the hints and tip section - have a gander round there.

hey buddy. you\'re in a v similar situation to me, been considering other cars but i\'ve always dreamed of owning an RX7, and although it\'s true the rotary engine can be a little problematic (especially in comparison to a honda model) that is all part of the unique charm the RX7 has!

seems like most of the experienced guys here recommend setting aside £3k or so in case of a rebuild. i\'m just guessing, but i think as the engine has very few moving parts, if one of them were to go wrong it would probably need a complete rebuild, as you said.

even so, looking around you\'ll find some dealers offer 6 months warranties (including engine rebuilds) and some even offer 1 year cover. but does anyone know if this covers parts and labour or just the parts?

the rx does seem to require a lot of TLC, but it has gotta be one of the most rewarding cars to own, both in terms of desireabilty and sheer driving pleaure. a FF honda is just never gonna compare! :D
