Title: Steering Wheel Snap off Boss Advice
Post by: Bulla on August 09, 2009, 10:55:00 AM
Is anyone using a D1 snap off boss kit ?

http://www.d1specusa.com/servlet/the-3/Steering-Wheel-Quick-Release-dsh-/Detail

Are they any good or is there a better alternative ? I havent decided between a Nardi or a Momo wheel yet but I fancied a snap off boss. Do these bosses mount straight to the FD or do I need the corresponding Momo/Nardi boss in between ?

Cheers

It looks pretty similar to mine, it does have to mount onto an existing momo/sparco etc.. boss. But they are compatible with almost all hubs.

I bought one from driftworks http://www.driftworks.com/catalog/products/driftworks-60mm-race-quick-release-steering-spacer.html probably cheaper than the one youre looking at.

I\'d recommend them, very good quality and no play at all.

It will move the steering wheel about 6cm closer to you, which you might want to keep in mind if you are going for a dished steering wheel.

hope that helps!

Really easy to fit and use, its as straightforward as putting in 12 screws and connecting some wires for the horn. Comes with all the wires and fitting hardware you need.

It definitely won\'t fall off! mine is solid as a rock :yes

To take it off you keep the little button pressed in and pull the locking  sleeve towards you (the gold/anodised blue thing). To reattach it, put the wheel back on and give it a little "jiggle". The sleeve litterally snaps shut locking the ball bearings into place.

Its one of those things once you see it in use you\'ll understand how it works!

Well, i\'m usin one as well - been brilliant so far - no probs at all.

As to whether it will fit stock, without the momo boss, i can\'t say - my car came with the momo boss+wheel fitted by the previous owner.  Fitting the D1 was a piece of cake tho, baring the horn button (mine\'s worn, and has a habit of popping out)

Out of interest anyone using this boss, are you running flat wheels or dished ? I\'m worried that with a Momo boss, then the snap off boss and then having a dished wheel will mean it will be right up in my face ?

Hmmm

I\'m running a pretty flat wheel (maybe 1cm dish)

That said, I\'ve got the momo boss and the snap-off, and i\'ve brought an extra 50mm spacer to bring the wheel closer - and 50mm is looking like it might be a bit too much - 20mm might have been better.  Then again, I sit with the seat at the back of the extended seat runners (long legs), so I can just about get away with it.

The snapp-off is approx the same as a 50mm spacer, i think (car has been in the shop for so long i\'ve forgotten what parts of it look like :D)

I\'m a long legged (6\'2") fat bellied extended seat runner driver too. I was looking at the Momo drifting wheel but im worried the 90mm dish might be a bit too much with the snap off boss aswell. Maybe I\'ll just order it and then so without the snap off if its too much.

I did like the look of the Nardi Corn wheels but cant find one for a decent price over here, dont wanna be spending over £200 on a steering wheel :2eek
