Title: FC cab back from WGT!
Post by: alxlaw on August 07, 2009, 06:37:44 PM
ok in all service was great explaind alot and was plesant to speak to, the bill was epic but hay was worth it.... i think, however it was unable to be set up for higher boost (or something i can go into greater detail if i read it more carefully) but he said as its on a standard ecu it would only ever bearound the 240fwhp which is fine i guess but the standard ecu was news to me but hey:wave

so they set it up with the apexi boost controller off....so standard boost, except there was a problem with the throttle bodies, they where dead so a fettle, few \'sundries\' later and i get the call to pick it up! so i pay my EPIC bill and im told the apexi bc is causing alot of problems, anyway i drive off feeling a nice sense of lower down power more grunt bit more torque and the turbo kicked in much earlyer -

so i read the figures and it started at 147 bhp when i gave it them.....woah!....now at 242! yey! but they hadnt fixed the fuel smell in the cabin (which nearly killed me few weeks ago) and the idle had gone to .... again.... plus the boost was all over the show barely making .45 of a bar sometimes so i left the apexi bc off

THEN i went to my mate jakes gaff! he comes on here sometimes, he\'s got an epic black FD slightly poorly atm, so.. fitted a manual bc, found the carbon canister was left dangling all over the show next to the gear box with no pipe on the bottom of it??? , so attached it, fitted a long pipe that took the fuel smell away from the blowers and hey presto! i can drive it wit the roof ON and OFF and have the blower on AND excuse my French but now PULLS LIKE A ....ING TRAIN AT 0.95 OF A BAR.....

i ask myself... for the EPIC BILL why didnt wgt just try a manual bc? that way i woulda realised a major contributing factor into what was actually wrong with it! the car feels like a completely different animal feels absolutely awsom!!!

anyway the car drives perfect.....now!....im going to wgt tomorrow to sort out the idle as there is a slight hissing noise from the back of the engine which jake recons could be causing my bad idle again (which WAS fixed)

(all round 7\'s again btw)

anyone got a set of either of those mine appear to be missing.....

tip for the future - change the pics after you start nicking bits off the car your selling  - cheers pete  :P

(meant in jest pete dont worry:chat)

anyway back in love with my car again, AND whoever offered me that 1.5LSD  FD diff - if there willing to except £100 im game??:2Rolleyes

You drove at 0.95 bar on a stock ecu? Is it chipped at all, or have you just got a FCD? I was under the impression that anything more than stock boost is bad with out the car being mapped for it. Also the stock injectors and intercooler start to struggle at 0.9 bar boost. Anyway glad that you\'d got it working. They\'re amazing machines when they work. You should try driving one with a welded diff over the rubbish open open diff, they corner much faster :D

..? stock is 200bhp. not sure where u got the 147 from?
i say get an apexi (ap eng) PFC :Giggle
then u can map for higher boost n more oomphv:Giggle

where do you just find 97 bhp from ??

unless the first one was at the wheels and the 2nd one at the fly - but even then the figures dont stack up ?

the car was sooo sooo slow when i got it as it was only running on one throttle, so 147 was all it could muster on day 1, true but i was under the impression it wasnt stock............

from 2 closed throttle bodies

Nice its all going ok but that is a chipped ECU you have there and not standard so please check he got that right.  The front lower splitter things are not suppose to be there and actually came off a S4 car but fitted ok. I found they were rubbing and catching the kerb way too much and almost took the front off so they came off.
Nice to see the engine is still on 7\'s and has not deteriated at all since when I had it.

I am a bit confused on the throttle body butterfly bit, these are mechanically opened and shut by the throttle cable, were they completely shut?? Not sure how that would run at all in that condition.  So by adding a complete 3" exhaust and a decent air filter that adds 50BHP from a standard engine, thats an impressive jump.

id say even more with the manual boost controller 2nd and third are terrifying at a meer 0.85 - 1bar (depending on what the spiky bleeder valve feels like giving) was vague power before now feels like a train, that apexi bc was the main prob after i got it back, can you get hold of replacement solenoids for them? - didn\'t go to wgt today as he wouldnt answer the phone, didnt fancie a drive down for nothing - will ring him on monday, what sorta chip any other info on it? tbh pip seemed kinda vague about the throttles i could tell there was a big difference when i got it back but was still lacking somewhat, now is absolutely sweet (bar idle) but hay cant have everything at once!

It may have been the BC all along from the start. That will certainly affect the idle and power if faulty.
The ECU is a chipped (in a carrier) standard ECU which is modded for FCD, higher boost, intercooler, exhaust, fuel curve etc etc. Just pretty much the usual mods. When you look at the ECU it will look like standard until you open the lid. I would have thought that Pip would have spotted that on the tuneup and I certainly would have expected him to spot the faulty Boost controller but it would be nice to see what he did for the money.
You can get replacement  solenoids but to be honest someone will buy the controller by itself and you just get another setup. Be cheaper. The solenoids are the same ones that they use in the Apexi PFC setups to link the ECU and BC but not sure where you get them from.

I would refrain from going to those sort of boost figures all the time as its still only a standard turbo on there. You will need to get the hot side ported at least and a really good wastegate actuator to stop any sort of boost creep above even the 0.85. It might just save it blowing.

yea some one said bleed valves were pretty bad (dangerous) might get hold of a normal one from somewhere, and turn it down a bit, ill mention the chip to pip

Yeah Myt boost controller is the bleed valve type. I never know what exact boost I am running when I use it. I just leave it alone. Will get a better one when the cash is better.

Just had a look at a TB and it is possible for the primary valve to be open and not the secondaries if they become stuck.
