Post by: Initial-D on August 03, 2009, 02:12:16 PM
Only just realized I\'d had my car updates in the members section so not everyone can see what\'s been happening with the FD.There are some new updates on the FDs progress and problems lol! Have added some nice pics from Time Attack throughout this year too.:driving

It has evolved over the years!:Giggle
I keep telling myself to just drive it but I have an urge to keep modifying it! I thought it would be useful to other people looking to tweak aspects of their car, its not been the best year for track results but like most things it takes time to fine tune it.:King

I agree it really is annoying and everyone that see\'s it says so too. :(
The time attack stickers this year really are horrid, I can\'t wait to peel them off!!

Why do they make u put the stickers on? do you get some money from sponsorship or money off things?

Its like someone making me put GM LS1 V8 stickers on me car arrrrggg just woke in a sweat hahaha

Its mainly for their sponsors of the event. But we can get discounts from, but they are only small.

I sent off lots of sponsorship requests but this turned up very little. In the end everyone wants you to spend money with them and gives a 10-20% discount - so not much better than a bit of haggling really. Ideally I\'d rather promote a company in exchange for a product, money has been tight this year so I haven\'t had the funds to try some new ideas or get some new toys - maybe next year!!

Nice looking car man.

About your cooling issues. After looking at your pictures on your blog, i can\'t realy see any ducting from the front to the radiator. All air that comes in the front must be ducted to go to the IC and then be ducted again between the ic and radiator. That will help alot. And i would recomend a big radiator compeard to the "stock" size alu once. The bigger the better, mine is about 4" thick. And change out the stock fans as well. As they don\'t blow enough air.

Now the second thing is to duct the oil coolers as well, so the entire oil cooler is coverd by ducts. And then run a realy good oil in the engine. Like Agip 10-60 racing syntetich. But don\'t do that if u run the OMP still. If u need to run mineral oil, run the thickest oil you can get, and change it after each track session.

I went from a good grade 10-40 mineral oil after dyno and a short track session, to Royal Purple 15w-50 semi syntetich and my oil temps droped 20 degrece celcius and the oil pressure jumed 2 bar on my 4 rotor.

Cheers for the pointers! Your 4-rotor project has been a great read too!

I have ducting from the front bumper that forces air through the intercooler and radiator, its black so you can\'t see it. The oil coolers have been moved forward so they are closer to the front bumper but I still have to duct the small gaps.

I’ll have to find a bigger rad, koyo what I currently have – can you recommend a larger one? Fans are on my list as I can cut out the relays and put them on a thermo switch.

I still run the OMP but add a bit of premix for safety. I run Royal Purple oil in my diff and gearbox, I will have to see if I can use a semi synthetic with the OMP so I can take advantage of the better temps, although its not cheap!!

I have one at home, I originally used the sticky heat wrap but later changed to ali sheet which helps stop the heat affecting the brakes. They aren\'t hard to make, make a cardboard template then replicate in ali.

Got a new camera for my birthday after taking years to finally decide on one, there really is too much choice these days! :Giggle

I took the car out to a local car parking area, the weather was great for a few pics - so an excellent opportunity to test the new camera and hopefully get some nice pics of the FD too.:D

Let me know if you\'d like a bigger size. :cheers
