Title: fuses keep blowin on my FC
Post by: samfc3s on April 25, 2004, 01:02:55 AM
WEll...is a good day for me as i m back to the rotary family today, i bought a white later turbo2 with rebuilt engine for a very good price. however somethin had happened when i m on my way home.

the rev counter, oil pressure, boost, oil temp, n fuel gauge all suddenly not work, then i relaise is one of the fuse is blown at the driver\'s side fuse box, so i replace it and it blown again when i started boostin it, strange huh, but it was ok when i started the car, all gauge workin until i start drive the car with speed. anyone know wot causes this?????????

thx in advance

Ok, here\'s the really thick answer : too much current is gong through that fuse!

You will need to look at the wiring diagram, and see what is supplied power by that fuse. Then, you will need a multimeter and start testing for a short circuit. In other words, something that gets power from that fuse, is connecting the 12v straight to the chassis somewhere. Of course it could be a bare wire somewhere too, that occasionally touches the frame.

You say the engine was rebuilt?  Make sure that the engine is "grounded" well. The  engine is connect to the car with rubber engine mounts, so there is no circuit between the engine and the - or negative side of the battery. There is a little ground strap that goes from the engine to the bulkead (place where your vin plate is). This came off on my FC once, and the car would not run.

This little strap is insufficient sometimes, and people add extra ones.

So, I doubt the strap would cause a fuse to pop, but you never know.

Do you have the Haynes Manual? Their wiring diagrams are a bit pathetic, but at least its a place to start. In fact, I actually complained to them about it, and they sent me better ones, free!

Also, somewhere, there is someone around who has proper Mazda UK wiring diagrams. If you need these, post here or email me, and I\'ll find him again for you.

Hope this all helps!

Is that not something todo with fuel economy? do you have
cruise control? Think I read long ago some guys were
knocking it off to run richer at high revs in 5th gear.
This is all memory and could be wrong.
