Title: I failed
Post by: Andyp on April 24, 2004, 11:04:26 PM
Well I tried to be brave and change my plugs / HT leads today from the top today. After spending an hour getting the inlet / throttle body bolts off with a lot of wd40 I thought I was kicking ass until I tried to remove the throttle body where I got stuck. Couldn\'t get the lil bast off as the coolant hose under it just wouldn\'t budge no matter what I did.

Found there wasn\'t enough room to wave a 5/8 adjustable socket thingy so I had to call it quits, and I think a trip to JPS is in order ;(

Learnt a lot though to be positive and it still worked when I put it back togther so can\'t be all bad. I need more education on it :)

Jeeze, you should see the bruises I have this morning.. all this stuff is hard work hehe. I think it\'s kinda fun to be honest, challanging but I have my limits, didn\'t wanna go past the point of no return :)

Oh don\'t listen to that Jap Performance stuff hehe, he made most of it up. I said I had an apexi el commander and that turned into a boost commander with 1.3 bar  and I said I thought it was an ex single turbo as I found ngk 11\'s / 10.5\'s stuffed in a sandwich bag & I thought it had an aftermkt clutch... and that turned into "infact this used to be a single turbo etc" hehe... was a laugh but seems he got his notes a lil wrong :rollin

I took my throttle body and inlet extension off a couple of weeks ago. didn\'t turn out to be too difficult for mine, everything came off reasonably easily. However, it didn\'t run once it all went back together again!! :p Had to buy replacement gasket (Which were metal instead of paper which was good). She ran properly after that.....But she\'s now sat back on the drive with a flooded engine that won\'t start!! Darn these rotary engines!! :D

The nuts on mine were solid, took about half a can of wd40 and all my might with my socket set to get off hehe

I just couldn\'t get that dam coolant hose off at the bottom of the throttle body, was so tough, just wouldn\'t budge :(

My gasket is already metal, had a look at that, comforting to know they used good parts :)

Just gotta get JPS to "loosen" it for me so next time it\'ll be easy lol

it\'s all good fun ain\'t it :D

could you not just cut the hose in the middle to allow you to remove the throttle body, and then replace it when the throttle body is off? It\'ll be a lot easier to be able to get to it then.

I\'m not sure, but considering it\'s just standard coolant hose, you could get it down halfords, or the like. Shouldn\'t cost that much!

Hi Andy,
What i would suggest is that whoever does the job for you, ask them to replace the hose with a longer one, so next time the manifold needs to come off, the is a bit of room to play.

yeah good point. Dunno if Halfords would sell the one I was thinking of? Was kinda unbend one? Tis the one under the throttle body.. was that little bugger hanging onto it

Think it\'s like everything else I tried that day though, hasn\'t come off for so long just got solid. I guess those rubber hoses would be easier to separate when they are hot too... Anyway we\'ll see how easy he can do it :)

Just get a piece the right diameter, and about 20cm long. Just make sure there aren´t any kinks in the tube. All that will happen then is that your cold start would go to the dogs.
