Title: Uprated Oil Coolers - FD
Post by: AshRX on July 28, 2009, 01:11:02 AM
Gonna be changing the oil coolers on the FD for a nice pair of Mocal larger ones.

Question is I know the thermostat is built onto the original oil cooler, but where would i place an aftermarket one and which type to allow me to run both coolers? Also I take it I would need 2 thermostats?

Cheers

Wouldn\'t it depend on the layout of the cooling circuit ? Are the stock coolers in parallel or series ?

Ash,

on the 20b we use one mocal stat and 2 mocal coolers, the stat allows the oil to flow to the coolers at about 80 degrees.  You only need 1.  We ran ours in parallel.   Out of engine - to stat - T piece to the 2 coolers,  out of the coolers - T piece back to one line to the stat.  The stat then has one out put back to the engine.  There are 4 ports on the stat in total.

cool cheers Tony. What row coolers did you use? Im looking at the 19 row x 235 width ones. Also what size hosing did you use? 3/4? Its just the kits i have seen come with braided line with fast connectors so just want to make sure I get the right size.

Thanks
