So couple of things that I need to clarify about my Apexi PFC which is specific to the FC3S and is not an early FD item.
The fit is straight forward and only one seperate wire to connect into the speed sensor
Firstly the Map sensor which replaces the boost sensor, which wires connect to what? I can work out the earth but ensure which way round the other two go.
Secondly this does illiminate the AFM so will the ECU trigger the fuel pump to run or do I have to hard wire from the ignition system of some sort. Just can not seem to find any instructions on this model as they are quite old now.
I could just trial and error and see what happens but there is usually someone on here that knows the answer to save a lot of messing about.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Pete, on my fd one I just wired my fuel pump seperately but to do it properly the ecu will stop powering the fuel pump relay when the engine isnt cranking, nothing to do with AFM as far as i know.
The FD one uses the FD map sensor so i would assume that the FC onees uses the FC map sensor. Do the wires from the stock map sensor get used in the apexi ecu, if so then i would say retain the stock one. Or at least start of using the stock one ans see if it works.
The series 4 cars with the Vane Air flow meter had a \'tilt\' switch built in which cut fuel if the car was turned over - that\'s why you can\'t just change position of the AFM any old how on those models.
The series 5 cars with the cone AFM only have the air temp sensor and cone wiper contacts on it - there is nothing wired to the fuel pump circuit directly - it\'s all from the ECU. As long as the PFC provide the 2 relevant signals to switch on fuel pump and drive the resistor relay - you\'re laughing :)
Cheers chaps, just the info I wanted. I will give it all a go and see what happens.
well its running and ticking over well, just got to adjust the TPS and then idle again to get it spot on now its hot. As I have my datalogit I will see what its doing as I have no idea what map it is running. Next job will be to wire in the 3bar map sensor and see what that does. Its running on the standard Boost sensor but I have seen some PFC setups specific to the FC that come with the map sensor to get rid of the AFM. I am not sure what the difference is internally.
not sure but i dont think the AFM and boost sensor are linked, you should just dump the AFM, also, the air temp sensor on a turbo 2 is just before the TB in the elbow, is there another one in the afm pre turbo?

There is - it\'s used to calculate air mass in conjuction with the AFM signal. If the Mapping in the Apexi is using speed density then it should still run with the AFM unplugged.
No AFM at all and runs ok. One thing I found though is that I can not seem to tune the TPS with the Apexi so I had to put the standard ECU back in to set that up. I use the two filaments to do this as at the moment my multimeter is in the bin after i dropped it.
So with the Apexi I have swopped the standard air temp sensor in the compression tube with a FD uprated one. I have got rid of the AFM and I have the standard boost sensor for now. I tried my 3Bar map sensor which is a Greddy E-manage one but it did not like that, there may be a setting in the PFC to alter to allow for this but not too sure. I think for now its a case of settling everything in, set the TPS and idle as it should when i get a new multimeter and then have a play.
With the electric fan on it does drop its idle a bit and does not seem to compensate so may look into that. Fuelling is still standard but i will swop my rail over to a modded one without the FPR and incorporate a standalone one. A/F\'s are good at idle and with a bit of throttle.
Only thing I dont think is working is the Wastegate, its an external Greddy/Trust item and so far it does not work in conjunction with my Apexi boost comtroller. I should hear it as its a screamer pipe.
i just put 1000s in the secondaries and cut the stock fpr off the end of the rail and welded a tail to accept fuel hose.
On the FD the apexi controls the fan, it may still have an output to switch the fans even though its designed for the FC. If you have a commander, you can set the tps using that, if not you will have to wait for a new multimeter :)
Have you changed the settings on the apexi boost controller to external w/g from an acutator type, very important, they dont work otherwise
You should definitely hear and feel an external w/g, is it definitely plumbed correctly, you dont want to blow it up!
I will look into the settings for the wastegate as i am sure thats the problem as this ran ok on my standard flapper one on the old turbo. Its now external so this is the reason why. Not driving the car and its only been on tickover. One thing is that I will have to get a shield for the turbo, boy is it hot!! trouble is its so much higher up and far to easy to burn yourself.
My modded rail is just that, a welded one with the FPR cut off. I am going for 800\'s in this for the secondaries but want to get the apexi setup for now on what i got so i do not start getting too many problems at the same time.

Internal (Flapper) wastegate uses NO port on the boost solenoid/stepper valve
External wastegate uses the NC port on the boost Solenoid/stepper valve
Stritcly speaking - the COM port is piped to the wastegate, and then one of the two remaining pipes connects to the boost source (turbo neck) depending on what type of wastegate it is - the other vents to air.
been having a good read on what goes where and they all contradict eachother in various ways. Going to plumb in as if I have not got a controller and allow spring pressure only, be good to check that side out. Then I shall plumb in for the controller.
Controller is a Apexi and the wastegate is a Greddy/Trust 46mm with a double nipple for air in.
