Finally discovered why my starters been playing up! And it\'s not good!
The guy that had the car before me, removed the arch liners to stop the wheels rubbing, and didn\'t support the wiring loom in the passengers arch properly, leaving it to just sit on the wheel.
so you guessed it, the wheels just eaten through half the loom!
trying to upload a pic at present so you can see for yourselves!

aah Col thats awful mate-don\'t you just love bodgers:mad:
oh yes!
the guy that had it before me, had it apart to do the single turbo conversion, and the car was M.O.T\'d the day i got it
this is a list of faults i have had since:
* water seal failure the day after i picked it up
* 1 engine mount sheared
* the other engine mount not even bolted to subframe, just sat in the lug
* majority of nuts and bolts in the engine bay - just over hand tight
* 54mm flywheel nut - hand tight
* half the turbo/x manifold gasket missing
* ABS sensor wiring snipped.....?
* Gearbox bell housing blanking plate MISSING!
* various hoses and pipes from the original turbo set up left in, and just open to atmostphere...
* ECU dangling by it\'s wiring behind it\'s trim panel
* knackered thermostat, rad fans and thermoswitch
* Power steering leak
and now the loom thats been half eaten,
so in just over 2 months of owning it, it\'s cost me a small fortune, and i\'ve only been able to cover about 100miles in her.

Was this chap \'a mechanic\'? Fair play to you for not losing the will to live mate-I think it would have been to beachy head by now if it were mine!
So how bad is the loom?
OoooK, Sadly there people out there who think they can repair there car to a reasonable standard..... Sorry to hear you have got the S***y end of the stick.

bad times eh
That\'s ummmmm........impressive! What\'s more impressive is she didn\'t catch fire.
What\'s your next move mate?
that was my 1st impression.
going to splice new cable in for now just to get her running again, then invest in a new loom when i\'ve got some spare £ and the time to take the interior apart etc, going to be a pain in the arris by the looks of it though.
also got a power steering leak to find and a metallic tapping sound under hard acceleration, oh and she needs mapping as well lol
new they were expensive toys, but jesus!
haha well my idle is a bit low doobeedoo quick tweak there we go lovely lovely....gotta love a bit of 1st gen simplicity sometimes.
Good luck with the splicing tho mate,sounds like a fun way to spend a sunday:eek:
larger than stock size wheels rubbing away through the arch liners and into the ignition loom is such an age old problem.
i reakon this and alarms being cut into the ignition make up 99% of all ignition problems.
