Hey guys,
Ive been examining the engine bay on my rx7 and i found this plastic \'tub\' with HKS stamped on it
What is it?

I understand that this would usually be connected to the airbox or have an open filter on it..but this one does not.
can anyone shed some light onto what it actually does?
Cheers
Matt
also apparently my car runs on diesel !!!
like wtf !

Are you runnig an aftermarket induction kit? My guess is it\'s some sort of resonance chamber to silence the mooing from the air pump :)
ah...
im running an aero induction kit. which im planning on swaping for an Apexi kit. Because the aero filter is like a mesh and surely wont stop any .... heading towards the engine.
Would it be a good idea to keep this HKS thing in when i plump this pipe into th apexi induction kit?
isnt that part of the air pump system ???
does it look anything like on this thread : http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14205
Its a part that comes with HKS intakes - it connects to the air pipe coming from behind the airpump - the one that usually goes through the closed off section of the airbox then out the side (also known as the \'mystery pipe\' which just exits over the rad with no filters on it), god knows what it actually does though!
I assumed before I installed mine it was a resonance chamber to silence the mooing - but it doesn\'t, so it can\'t be that. Its empty (or at least mine is), so its not a filter of any kind either.
EDIT: Meant to say, if you are putting Apexi\'s in you\'ll be removing this anyway because the pipe to it goes into the back of one of the filter cages IIRC.
Cheers Aubec :)
im guessing some HKS filters have been on but not anymore.. I may leave it plumbed in i havent decided lol.
Like SiH said, I think it\'s an airpump anti-moo device :Thumbs-up.
Lol at the diesel cap :rollin
yeah, like wtf is with the diesel cap !
Cheers for the replys guys. It will be coming off when i get the apexi\'s but for now its there :p
Air pumps go moo? This I have to hear!! :Viking
Chris.
Yeah, if you swap away from the stock airbox in favour of induction kits the return pipe from the airpump loses the little silencer chamber it has in the box, and at 2200 revs-ish, when the pump closes off, it makes a really loud "Mooo". It is exactly like a cow mooing, and it is categorically not a cool noise for your car to make when for example pulling up at a zebra crossing outside the local sixth form as all the young hotties are waiting to cross :rollin
If you get the induction kit new, they often have a small restrictor to stop it happening (or a squidgy bottle like the one in the OP) but if they\'re secondhand, it\'s usually lost by then. You can make your own with a bung in the pipe with a 5mm or so hole through it
ahhhhh very informative :)
Maybe i should plumb this into the apexi filters then :)
Is it still running the airpump, dude? If not, it won\'t matter. If it is, you may be lucky and it won\'t moo. Mine for some reason was fine until I changed the routing of one of the hoses, then it started doing the moo noise. I just Sikaflex-ed a rubber bung into the relevant hose with a 5mm legth of silicone hose stuck through it, cos I figured that it would stay put that way and if it did get sucked into somewhere it shouldn\'t, at least a bit of rubber and glue would do less harm than a coin-sized metal restrictor :D

Yeah mate still running the air pump and air con  i dont really want to mess with it, ie remove cat and airpump until i get a better ecu etc etc.
Plus ive heard that some people have had problems once removing the air pump ?
Mooooo... think i\'ll keep hold of this HKS thing until i know whether it moo\'s or not
