Title: noob boost question
Post by: hashiriya on July 19, 2009, 05:09:40 PM
Hi everyone. Please excuse me if this kind of information is available elsewhere on the forum already but i still don\'t know all the terminology to do the right searches.

I just bought a 93 FD and I had a question regarding how it boosts. I know the stock twins have a switch over and when I am on wide open throttle from low rpm, boost builds up form about 2.5k rpm and goes to about 8-10 psi then it dips down just past 4000 then back up to 8-10 psi on higher revs.

However when I then shift up a gear, the rpm will drop to about 4.5k-5k but the boost drops to about 3-4psi until 6.5k when it comes back up. If i let the revs drop below 4k the boost goes back to the first situation i described.

Is this behaviour normal? Is there something simple that could be causing the second turbo to not spool up until 6.5k?

Once again, sorry if the infor is somewhere else but I just couldn\'t find anything.

I had a something like that on mine the second turbo was only coming in after 6k turned out to be a broken wire in the loom check this site out has all the info about the twins and how they should work click me (http://www.autosportracetech.com/RX-7/rx7stuff.htm)

the thing is if you have a boost problem, what i found was you can do loads of reading other peoples troubles and think you have the same. Its best to take it to a specialist who knows what they are doing saved me a lot of heart ache.

I do agree with taking it to a specialist but its a lot easier when your only 15miles from one as opposed to being in the wrong end of the country;).
