Title: front wheel bearing
Post by: Draco on July 18, 2009, 01:05:07 PM
guys I think i require NS front wheel bearing. I have play from top to bottom on the wheel. Also when on full right lock reversing i get a slight knocking noise.
would that make it the bearing?

any ideas where I can get one from? would it be worth replacing both sides?

won\'t be a knocking noice if it\'s a wheel bearing, possibly c.v joint or wishbone maybe?

as for the other side, if it ain\'t broke, don\'t fix it.

There isn\'t a CV joint at the front.

Your options for problems are:
Lower Spherical bearing
Upper Spherical bearing
Wheel bearing.

Wheel nuts not tight enough

Ideally if you can take the wishbones off the upright you can tell very quickly, but you will need a ball joint splitter for that.  You would also be able to tell if the wheel bearing has gone at the same time.

If not then move the top and bottom in and out, and if there is play, it is likely to be the wheel bearing.

We can supply Mazda OE ones for you if you like?

There arent any pillow balls on the front, and the ones that are...can\'t as far as I am aware be changed.  Not without drilling them out and designing your own.

I will ask for a price of the fronts on Monday

They are the bearings that sit outboard on both top and bottom wishbones, and attach to the upright

well just had the wheel off and it looks like the Upper Spherical bearing( looks like an A frame that goes around the suspension dampner ). can the bearing just be replaced on those? or is it a complete unit?

Im sorry to say, but that A-frame as you call it is now fit for the bin only!

You need to get a new one or a second hand one :(

A new one will cost you circa £300
I have an old one knocking around if you want it?  It will be £50

to avoid confusion, i assume that by spherical bearing, you are referring to ball joints.
