Post by: tommy18 on July 18, 2009, 08:16:49 AM
hi
i\'m going to take of my diff this weekend to crack it open and see whats up! i took my diffuser and exhaust off last night for a quick look but thought i\'d get some advice before i start unbolting the wrong bits!
i shearched on here for an hour last night but could\'nt find any threads on this.
could anyone do a quick list:god on the order i need to do things, firsty how do the driveshafts come out? on the bmw i\'ve just done they unbolted from the flanges at the diff and they just dropped down, but this looks a bit different!

thanks alot
tom

I undo the upper and lower wishbones from the hub. Then carefully undo the little clip that holds the cv boot to the diff and u shud have enough movement with the 2 undone arms to pull the driveshaft away from the diff. Do that on each side. Then its just 2 more at the top for the diff mounts and remember to remove the retaining strap for the handbrake cables

The drive shafts just "pop" out of the diff with a little leverage from a large screwdriver/pri-bar, being careful not to damage the rubber boots.

Dude I did mine yesterday took about two and a half hours in the rain. I suggest you get yourself a deep 22 mm for the ppf nuts. Air tools also help.. Give me call on 07740256110 if you get stuck

it dont look good, what is involved in replacing the internals, or should i just replace the whole thing? all the gears look quite chewed up!
do the green greasy cups just pop out of the diff?

thanks

Yep get a big screwdriver or pri-bar and give a short sharp shove behind them.
