Title: Ignition problem
Post by: col_fd3s on July 17, 2009, 07:05:05 PM
Hi guys,

having an issue with my fd. noticed a fairly constant rattle on my way home the other day, an was somewhat confused as to what it was and it only did it for the last 1/2 mile of my journey.

Wasn\'t until i went to take it out again i realised what was happening, my starter won\'t disengage. In fact i don\'t even have to crank the engine, as soon as i turn the key to the II selection the engine springs to life. Took the starter out and cleaned the contacts and the starter seems fine, so suspecting an electrical isuue somewhere else.

any one any idea\'s?

col :(

I would be testing the Ignition barrel, before not i\'ve seen some really odd things happen when they go.

I would check and clean the solenoid part to the starter.

The solenoid pushes the gearwheel part outwards to connect with the flywheel so if its stating the engine straight away this shaft may not be retracting.

This happened on my old itr and ruined the flywheel but fortunately i got a payout from the warrenty and got a fidanza uprated one

starter solenoid disassembeled and cleaned all seems to be working fine, ignition switch is all fine, as is the lock barrel. completely at a loss now. don\'t want to keep stopping and starting it because it will inevitably flood the engine and/or kill the starter...

any other suggestions?

Check the little wire that triggers the starter, if that\'s on all the time i know its a PITA but you need to follow it back to the point of the problem. But before you do that check if its got a Starter Relay on it (not sure) maybe that may be stuck but i\'d be guessing there.
