Your thoughts on our new mirrors
Option 1: omething I would buy

Option 2: ouldn\'t put on my car

Option 3: ould consider

We are looking to make some door mirrors; primarily to compliment our Carbon doors, but also to sell as after market mirrors.
The mirror was on the car at RS6, and I asked the opinion of a few people to mixed response. I got the feeling a lot of people didn\'t really notice.
The design is meant to capture the original look and feel, but make subtle changes. It removes the need to have the mirror on a stalk so keeps the lines of the ridge on the door smooth, but I wanted it big enough to be effective on track. It also retains the standard mirror motor and glass as this is really light.
The mirrors will be available in either Carbon or GRP depending on whether you require them to be painted.
So if people could either/and vote/comment I would be extremely grateful.

Its a bit too big dude bit awkard looking, let me post pics of the style I would put on my car
To be honest they look a bit big/inelegant to me, maybe a shot of them from further back might help to see the overall size. I think you have hit the nail on the head though when you said they weren’t noticed, I think a slightly more daring design would be better?
here we go I luv these style

Craft Square FTW! That\'s what I have ready to go on my car.
From the point of view of reusing a lot of the stock parts (keeps their price down?), keeping them big enough for use on track whilst reducing the overall width of the car, they work. However, from an aesthetic point of view they do look fairly bulky. Not that the stock ones are small, but I think being further out from the car\'s body helps them. In this case the size of the unit actually overshadows the fact you now have clean line on the door.
From a race-car point of view where function wins out, I would say they work (depending on what their aero properties are like...), however in my case, not doing much track I would look to something that looked a little better.

+1.
Although the mirrors you have designed are nice and not taking away from the fact that you\'ve probably spent quite a few hours on them; for me they arent enough of a change from standard to warrant changing.
I think if you are going towards a more track orientated theme, then something along the lines of craft square type mirrors would definately fit the bill.
I know if you produced something similar to that then I would definately have a set off you.
Good work though. You seem to be producing some cracking stuff lately.
Bit to big for me as well, personally im wanting something more elegant than the stock ones.
Anything like blitz has posted but utilising the original mounts would be good.
Therefore no moding or painting required.
I think they change the lines of the car too much. Maybe something smaller. But I can\'t see adding those to my car. But maybe look at a slightly different design, smaller and a little lower.
I think if you loose the swage line on them & reduce the size to 3/4 or even 2/3 of what you have got & you would be on a winner, although I would also put a little more design work in the mounting point... possibly 2 struts like the lambo mirrors, & they would look nice ;)

FTMWYO lol
Those ones come with blanking plates to fill the holes left by the original mirrors:

Buy from Craft direct in Japan, dont go getting copies made up though :Nono!
The ones I have mount onto the holes. it\'s a different style they make for the FD, the \'WORKS\' version

again, no naught copies please.
I\'ve got standard ganador (non-C/F) mirrors and I love \'em! A cheeky carbon copy would be sweet (too tight to pay for legit ones!!!) :P

please dont copy the craft carbon ones, they are very exclusive due to their price, and having searched through loads of mirrors only ever found that they are next best after standard mirrors,
As regards to the mirrors you want a vote on i think something almost stock looking(imo mazda done an excellent job on the fd/fc and is very hard to improve on for a \'street car\') but with the garador type legs.
Actually looking at the garador mirror yours looks exactly the same but the legs part infilled?
Ganador FTW! I had Craft Square ones on my YZF and they were ....e, vibrated like a tourettes victim on Red Bull and the stupid irritating neeedlessly feeble little ridiculous fixing nuts worked loose all the sodding time so the first time you went over 90 they just drooped like a witches\' tlt. They drove me literally insane and I eBayed them in very short order.
Back on-message, I think your ones look a bit to large and ...well, undefined, Jon sad to say. There\'s no kinda shape to them to grab your attention IYSWIM. Sorry, mate
Cheers for the votes guys, sorry... I wasnt being rude by not joining in the discussion yesterday...but rather crying into my shirt sleeves as no one likes the mirrors!
Actually I was sat on numerous motorways..so making it difficult to read all of the replies.
I guess it will be back to a re-think....and try something different. There were at least 4 kind people! So thank you...whoever you were :) :)
Well one for doing something different and making your own design instead of ripping everyone else’s designs off. Credit where it\'s due, I think they need to be made a little smaller though.

Dont get me wrong thats some fantastic work you have put into those mirrors and they do look fantastic :D just not my style.
Also nice to see you making something different instead of copying people.
Hello guys,
Just echoing what Jon said really, cheers for the replies and what was actually amazing constructive feedback :god. Its been taken on board and I\'ll be working on the next prototypes with what was said in mind.. :3gears-rh
Just to explain the mirrors, they were born out of the fact that we didnt want to drill through our nice new carbon doors and wanted to try something different, so we set about modifying the standard mirrors, retaining the original mirror shape and motor (mainly down to short time leading up to the show, and the potential for keeping the standard elec. mirror adjustment), and moving them to the door triangle. The standard mirror glass inevitably led to a larger size than ideal for the lines of the car, the fact that the mirror was put together on a widebodied car didnt help with the sense of scale also!
We have also discussed incorporating indicator lights into the mirror units, which will be looked into in the next design.
Thanks again
You need a qualified automotive designer mate? ;)
Try bringing the glass more horizontal too. I think that maybe using the standard glass is the sticking point. Interesting challenge though.
Haha... Well I\'m going into my final year at Coventry Uni doing Automotive/Vehicle mDes so almost there :Thumbs-up
There might be a way around it anyway as quite a bit of glass can be trimmed whilst retaining the stock motor.. but we shall see!
Been there done that one haha. Graduated back in 2006!
Lucky ......., I would have loved to play with Rexes whilst studying.

I\'ve got these with the built in side repeaters too.
Think yours are too big for the FD!
what ever you do ...dont put built in indicators to the new design, its sooo gash, a lot of new cars have them and they look so tacky on them
Was planning to do it a little more tactfully than a big lens.
The problem we have is that the Clam shell doesn\'t have repeaters built in...and so I want to have some form of indication on the side.
We have a new one in the moulding stage at the moment....something slightly different again.
Will put up a new poll again shortly :) Thanks for your help guys

I love this style of mirrors
I want your doors Jon so get some supports made for them.
As the mirrors need to be bigish to accommodate the original motors and glass how about a cross between these two, something nice and curvy but on slender upright stalks?
M3s have nice mirrors.
