Title: When tightening through bolts...
Post by: Jim_rx7 on July 13, 2009, 10:09:03 PM
I\'ve heard ocasionally you can get a bit of blow by (correct term?), when you tighten them to factory torque settings and it helps sometimes if you over tighten?

If that\'s the case, what\'s the norm?

cheers

Well what i tend to do is tighten up to factory settings then pressure test it with a gizzmo i bought from Atkins rotary (engine coolant pressure tester) and if i get any leakage i over tighten 5 deg at a time until it fixes it, Thing is its unusual to get any leakage if every thing is Toleranced up correctly and your using OE seals.

Don\'t use aftermarket water seals as thats where the problems with leakage originate. Also make sure you clean the threads well before you assemble.

Yep, water seals and Seal Springs in my opinion should always be replaced with OE Mazda parts.
