Title: Interior Trim Removal Q\'s (with pics)
Post by: <--rYaN--> on April 22, 2004, 03:20:37 PM
I am removing the interior out of my car and i am starting with the boot.

Have a few questions, but i\'ll ask each with each pic

1) How do you go about removing the top plastic part of the boot, is all the tubing for the rear washer jet under here?

2) What is this button on the rim of the boot, not a button exactly, sort of a soft round rubber... thing?

4) What are these little metal nobbles all over the boot floor, normally with a rubber cap on?

5) For the rear left and right trim that the storage compartments are based in, does the strut brace need to be removed, and i assume that is entirely safe to do so?

6) Where does the water pipe from the washer thing go? to the left of the boot and around? I want to remove that to unblock it.

So to summarise the questions for now:

1) How do you go about removing the top plastic part of the boot, is all the tubing for the rear washer jet under here?

2) What is this button on the rim of the boot, not a button exactly, sort of a soft round rubber... thing?

3) What is this metal plate, and whats going into it/underneath it?

4) What are these little metal nobbles all over the boot floor, normally with a rubber cap on?

5) For the rear left and right trim that the storage compartments are based in, does the strut brace need to be removed, and i assume that is entirely safe to do so?

6) Where does the water pipe from the washer thing go? to the left of the boot and around? I want to remove that to unblock it.

Thanks for any help

Pic 3 - the metal plate is covering and prtecting the fuel pump that sits inside the fuel tank.

Pic 4 - The little metal nobbly bits are for holding the spare wheel cover in place, at least thats what they do on mine

pic 2 - someone else will know for sure but i suspect its just a draining gromet. if for some reason water starts to build up in the tailgate. As i say thats just a guess!!

Apparently the little nobbly bits are for holding the boss stereo components in place, least thats what i just read, makes sense, guess thats why they\'re threaded :)

Updates.

Im trying to remove the rear washer nozzle, how is this done and is it easily replaced? Can i go to halfords and get any new washer nozzle as i think this one is blocked or does it have to be a certain shape/height/angle etc?

Whats this white piece below the rubber pipe in the diagram, the rubber goes to the washer nozzle?

And when i removed the speakers to my car i found this white plug that was not connected to anything, is this for the optional Bose parts and that wiring come standard on every FD or would it suggest i had Bose options that were later removed??

One more thing, when my exhaust reaches a certain pitch i get that god awful metal vibrating sound from the boot which has become ever more noticeable now i have my interior out, so i have been pulling and tugging on everything to figure what could be resonating with the exhaust, the only thing that i found where metal would hit metal is on the fuel pump, the part on top in the big circle is loose and if you push and wobble it, it is easy to make a metal "clink" noise, the white stops in the smaller circles appear to do nothing but hold it on (not very tightly as it goes left and right as well)

Can this top piece of metal be removed safely? Any ways of tightening it??

Many thanks

Ryan

5) Nope - you can leave the strut brace well alone although you might have to take the top covers off as in your picture (I can\'t remember to be honest). Most of the rear trim just pulls out with some force. It\'s held in with lots of spring clips so be careful not to loose any when you take it out.

More progress pics

Absolute NIGHTMARE job getting the seats out, had to get a foot long breaker bar to get the 5 bolts out of each seat out, dont think they\'ve ever been budged in the 8 years or so since they was put in.

Carpet was also a bitch to get out, had to cut it by the footwells as it went under the dash, also had foam padding underneath, that was glued to the body, slowly ripped it out.

NoiseKiller products have arrived, come highly recommended on the scooby forums, got 3 square metres of self ashesive soundproofing material and a 2 litre tub of soundproofing liquid. Looks a good kit, will get that in the doors, floor and boot a.s.a.p :)

Apparently the japanese put money underneath their seats/carpet in the car for good luck.....

700 yen :cool thats about £3.47, guess he wanted a lot of luck. that will def be going back in along with the interior :D

Whoever said soundproofing was fun is a f\'ing LIAR lol.

Stage 1 now done, fitted adhesive soundproofing materials to most of the floor, under drivers seats, back seats, spare wheel well, up sides around shock towers. Soundproofing liquid stinks and i\'ve done 1 coat of that on most of the interior. Very thick stuff, can imagine it doing the job well, fingers crossed.

Good job i have a spare garage for the parts ;)

Donato,

A company called NoiseKiller, it came highly recommended on the scooby forums, not as expensive as other \'known\' brands as well, arrived at my door in 2 days after ordering over the phone.

 Noisekiller website (http://www.noisekiller.co.uk)

They didnt seem to have a full list of products and prices on their site however, so i looked on the scooby site at the list of what they had and prices.

List of products on scooby site (http://shop.scoobynet.co.uk/Category.asp?CategoryName=ICE)

I bought 3 litres of the liquid, and 3metresx1.2 of the barrier self adhesive mat :)
