Anyone know where the water temp sensor is located as mine is on the blink I think
thanks
On an FD there are three water sensors, First (most obvious) on the front of the water pump housing (where you top the water up on the engine) is a Water level sensor, the second/third is on the back of that big casting. The Fan switch is the one with a single wire coming out and the ECU switch is the one with two wires.
If you replace the Sensor be careful with the wires as they will be old and Brital (won\'t like being man handled too much). When you replace the plugs make sure they are clean and well on (may even be worth putting some zip tie\'s round to make sure it\'s on tight) as this will cause you all sorts of problems if you get a bad connection.
erm.....you forgot the one that sits under the oil filter. That\'s the temp sensor that the ECU uses, so probably the most important one!
Got it thanks. just going to order the sensor tommorow and hopefully that will cure my problem.

O yeh there is one in the rear plate too isn\'t there.
Is that not the Instrument gauge sensor? I may be getting confused??
Its both. Its the gauge one and the one used by the ecu.
Get out, does the sensor under the oil filter really feed the ECU? I thought it was the sensor in the back of the filler block that feeds the ECU, with the level sensor at the front of the block, and the sensor under the oil filter only feeds the temp guage.
I have not had this sensor connected to the sender under the oil filter since I had got the car. The sensor blade connector had broke. I\'ve been meaning to look at this, and see about somehow rewiring it up. Not had any problems yet with temps however.
the one at the back of the filler block does the ECU. Tested it with my power FC + commander and a blow lamp lol.
Have you got it sorted yet boss:wave
Holy cow!! I best try and get it re connected asap then!! You sure it gives a reading to the ECU and just not use the ECU harness, leap frogs through the ECU to then feed the gauges? Sorry I\'m just curious, lol.
Mind you in saying that I\'ve not had temp problems with out it not being connected as yet. lol
Gary was ment to call me back actually today. but not heard from him today. i will chase him tommorow.

LOL... Well i guess the motor is happy with that correction :3gears-lh
From what i can see the one on the back of the filler (green connector) does the ecu. doesnt seem to affect the gauge on the dash tho.
erm... not sure. i removed my gauge. I will check my stuff. You only need the ecu input. the rest is purly visual and the gauge aint linea anyway..

Hang on my bad, I was getting confused there. lol. I thought you guys were talking about the sender under the oil filter. Thats the one I\'ve not got connected. I got the other 2 connected around the filler.

Its simple, if you are on a stock ecu it will go into limp mode if its not getting the engine coolant temp (so it will not run properly) if you have a PFC it proberly would run to a degree (most likely quite rich) but if you look on the controller where it says water Temp there will be a line instead of a number. Also does your water temp work on the dash?
I was fairly sure it was the sensor on the back of the Pump housing as thats the one that was causing us problems (bad connection making the car go into limp)
Yeah, sorry, got the water level and ECU sender connected thats on the water filler housing block. The sender under the oil filter is not connected. Car runs fine, but water temp gauge on the dash does not work, although low level warning does.
(I keep speed reading the posts and mis read filler and filter in a few posts above! sorry!)
