Title: turbo rebuild.. how often?
Post by: L18M on July 10, 2009, 02:32:13 AM
theres lots of posts about engine rebuilds n how long they last etc..

but just wondering how long turbo\'s last on average?
i accept it can depend on many factors (how often u boost it, letting it cool down before switching off etc)
but lets say for a tub of average use/ abuse (mostly road use, some spirited driving, couple of drags/ track days)

also what are the most common failures? broken blades / bearing?

any advice / comments much appreciated :Thumbsup!

worn bearings and seals normally, at least 50K mileage on high power cars if the motor doesnt shove a seal in it before hand and mash the turbine wheel.
Stock turbos on stock cars 100K plus really, my VW golf turbo has done 150k on original turbo
