Title: Electrical Problems - New build!
Post by: DMDRIFTING on July 08, 2009, 09:19:18 PM
Hello,

as above, if anybody can help I will owe them big time!  :chat

Car has just come back from a rebuild and all has been fine, done about 400+ miles:

Have added the HKS Twin Spark Ignition Amplifier

Driven a further 50+ miles and then.... The car stalls, the only indication of a possible avenue, is the sensor readings on the Apexi Commander show, that the Water Temp, and Air temp, display blank dashes? (----)

Have tried replacing both live and earth on the water temp sensor and the sensor itself? Still the problem persists!

Also the car will be fine until the temp increases above 90 degrees?
If I try and keep the revs up to 3k the dash lights dim and the revs cut, if i let off the accelerator it cuts out?

Any electrical wizards will be getting a nice 6 pack of beer sent to them if they know what the problem is or whats causing it?

Look forward any help

Duncan

I\'ll see if I can help. What are your skills with a DMM like? First thing I\'d do it take out that ignition amp and see if it goes back to normal. Sounds like an engine grounding problem though, so check and double check that. There are several major ground points. One on the bottom left of the block next to the coolant drain, one on the rear lifting point, and one underneath the coil tray that leads back into the loom. There\'s also a ground point by the ECU.

hi mate dont kno if this will help, but wen i had my engine rebuilt it drove fine for a while and then it started doin the same as yours where it was cutting out and then id leave it come back n it would start up but still have a problem holding the revs n when the temp went up to normal running heat it would cut off n wud be a dog to start, in the end it was the oil pump that had gone on my car it had completly ceased up, n i got a new 1 fitted n it was returned to me fine

I\'ve unplugged the HKS Twin spark and seemed the same, will remove from ignition loom and check up to 3krpm..

It seems to me like an earthing problem so will check all of them over the weekend, weather permitting!

Many thanks
Duncan

Very interesting, how can this be checked? It is holding good oil pressure etc

Many thanks

Update:

Checked the sensors and have faults on

cnn (Charge Control)
pac (Port Air Control)
ntr (Neutral Switch)

Any ideas?

Thank you

May be wrong but doesn\'t the water sensor work of Ground? i.e. you have a Earth from the battery going into one side and the other connection goes to the ECU and the ecu reads the Resistance to determine the water temp? or is this a different type of sensor?

Sorry yes, i have replaced the wire that runs to the ecu (Green/white) and have also run a new earth, both from the water temp sensor....

Have checked the sensors on the commander today while it warmed up, and have the FPD (Fuel Pump Operation) sensor showing??

What would cause this?

Im not 100% with a DMM? I\'ve checked the ground points physically and they are all on very tight, how can you check they are getting sufficient earthing with the DMM?

When i get a chance i will take them off one by one and clean them up, i\'ve noticed a little paint on the one at the rear lifting point!!

Have just checked the continuity of the 4 grounds on the ecu, the pin out 4D (IIRC) the ground for sensors, is showing infinity (Well it goes from 900 up to 1900) every time, the others have a reading of 0000

Where does this 4d wire run to?
