Title: what to do now?
Post by: 666FLO on July 08, 2009, 04:28:32 PM
Took car for 2nd MOT and it failed on emissions test again. I said to him that it should be a non-CAT test as it an import 94-95. He said that when it comes up on the computer as that and he has no choice. How come they have managed before to do a non cat test on it but now they cant. Apart from putting it on a car transporter and taking it to WGT i dont know what else too do. :(  anyone any ideas? am I right or are they right? Ps this is the 2nd garage I have tried.

you are right i went through this when i had the FD last year, went to same garage as passed it previous year.spoke to guy who did it & he said came up on computer (new one) needed cat test - as it happened i had the old exhaust with cat so swapped over for mot then swapped back again as was easier than arguing the toss

I don\'t have a spare exhaust with a CAT :(.

I wish i hadn\'t forgot about gettting the MOT and none of this would be happening as I would have taken it too WGT in the first place. I\'m so annoyed now. I know your allowed to drive to the MOT place with no MOT or tax but I can\'t see me getting away with it for a distance of 350miles? :( or maybe i will?

So what are my options now?

do it mate, the rules say that you can drive to the MOT centre (in this case WGT) but it doesn\'t mention how far away that it has to be. just make sure that you have proof that you have the MOT booked or just make WGT aware that if you get pulled then they may recieve a confirmation phone call (thats only for if you get pulled over which is unlikely....touch wood)

You may still be failing the non cat test it is possible on a rex.
But ask him to show you what he presses on the machine.
He must be over rideing it overwise. The test should be the basic idle test 3.5% co2.

As long as it\'s prebooked it\'s not an issue.  They are a rotary specialist - and quite possibly your nearest one, so the distance isn\'t really that relevant.  You only have to have insurance, and you can do the tax online when you get the MOT.

if the chassis number starts "FD3S" it\'s a non-cat test? i though most imports have this chassis number...

That all start with that - just mean it\'s a 3rd gen - UK cars have the 17 digit VIN

My car passed its MOT last Friday... no advisories but failed Miserably on the Emissions.. He said does this shead any light on you? (he showed  me the book which said “FD13BS”) I pointed and said that’s the car model “FD” that’s the engine code “13B” but I have no idea what the “S” stands for.. Although they do use the 13B engines in the OLD rx7’s so that could be the 13BS there the same engine code as mine. He quickly said OH well now that could explain it.. i will put it through the non-catalyst test. so he just passed it for me.

Does that mean the garage can by-pass what the computer says, if they think it is wrong? Your lucky nuki. :)

Well WGT REALLY is my nearest rotary specialist & as I\'m not having much luck with garages up in aberdeen. Its soo annoying as all I want to do it bloody get it MOT\'ed so I can drive it to WGT and get it serviced and stuff. :Laugh!

Looks like I\'m driving it there then.. this should be interesting!
