Title: Rollcage - stock belts or harness?
Post by: m1tch on July 02, 2009, 05:40:00 PM
Hi guys, I am nabbing a rollcage for my FC3S off Speedline imports soon, and needed to ask a few questions regarding seatbelts and roll cages, I know I asked about getting a harness with no roll cage and apparently that was a big no no due to the harness holding you in the wrong place in a crash.

Just wondering if it will be ok to have a harness for a road car with a 6 point cage, if thats going to be ok, I will be running the stock seat for a while (the stock turbo II seat is really bucket like) until I change to a proper bucket seat.

What is the safe option with a roll cage, stock seatbelts or a harness for my fast road/occasional track FC?

Many thanks :)

i thought it was the other way round.. cage and stock belt is no no.. as if u roll it then ur head can move quite a bit and hit the cage bar?
i would of thought harness and no cage is ok?

thats y i decided against the full cage.

Cage=buckets+Harness

It is that simple.

If you hit your head against the cage in an accident it is gonna hurt!
Also if you are wearing harnesses, please please please make sure they are tight when you set off.  There are no pre-tensioning devices built in and the force of you hitting the belt could kill you in an accident.

If you can move your shoulders whilst in the seat...the belts arent tight enough!

Ok I will look at getting 2 bucket seats for the front and some FIA harnesses, im asking all this before it all gets fitted so I get it right :)

regarding fitting the harnesses, would I need a horizontal bar across the back or could I attach it to the rear bars that might be diagonal?

Best not to attach it to bars that can be diagonal...use a straight bar.

What seats are you fitting??

We run the Corbeau Pro\'s which are a very comfortable and protective seat.
Along with our own make of seat mounts.

Im still deciding, im looking for a comfortable seat that gives support like the OEM turbo II seats are, how much are your seat and rails?
