Could be a seized starter motor or the wires the wrong way around as i found out on a renault 5 making the same noise ...
If you have access easy enough to get under the car i would remove the starter motor as i didn’t find mine hard to remove on my FD...
Then stick positive and negative to it and see if it is fully working then you can eliminate the starter motor out of the equation if its working correctly.

I can\'t pm you as i am not a full member: my email is available on my profile though.

Yes, i did have a red RX, but sold it about a month ago now. I now have a black Evo 8.

advice on what mate?

you won\'t know whats wrong or what it\'s gonna cost till you\'ve had your engine out and stripped it down.

haha, i have 1 if you need to borrow it mate, am in swindon though.

it\'s bloody tight that nut, so you may need to find some1 with a MASSIVE airgun!

as for parts, rx motors probably easiest and cheapest down your way

whatr size is the socket?
Title: Help will not start after fitting engine
Post by: col_fd3s on July 08, 2009, 07:07:37 PM
the nut is a 54mm,  but my socket is a 55mm. 1mm doesn\'t make an ounce of difference when it\'s that big

i have a workshop manual with everything you could ever wish to know about them.

thats the risk you take unfortunately, you might be lucky and just need new seals, but like i said, until you\'ve broken everything down you won\'t know

I\'m confused here.. two threads in one??

Is it a new engine that\'s been put in the car? (original poster), rebuild??

If it won\'t start even with the starter working. Make sure you have fuel and a spark. If you do, try tow starting the thing.

it wont start because i missed out a wire from the battery dumb i know, but it turns out the engine is knackerd neway so its sat on the work bench waiting for rebuild once i get enough info about porting it etc
