Title: could i use a turbo timer to control a electric fan?
Post by: mpk490p on July 01, 2009, 12:24:22 PM
i have fitted a electric fan to my gen 1 non turbo i know on the gen2/3 the cooling fans come on then go off at a lower temp, i want to do that to mine and thinking was to use a turbo timer and trick it into thinking when the fan switches off it needs to count down 2 minutes? a thermostat from a later car wouldnt work due to the switch gear i have for the fan
thoughts on a postcard?!

Gen 2 use a hydrostatic fan like the 1st gen.  You can use any thermo stat to keep an electric fan running, just wire it to a sensor in an appropriate section of the water system, ensure its switched seperately from the ignition and it will keep running when you turn the engine off.  Much cheaper than a turbo timer... (I built mine from scrapped pug and volvo parts)

Turbo time could be made to work, but as Brett Says thermostat and relay is your friend.
