another thing when the car is warm the car idles above slighly 1000rpm is this also normal?
Depends mate, is it modified? Stock RX7 should Idle between 700-800 rpm, easy to adjust if it\'s too high- if it\'s been ported, mapped etc hen it might have a higher idle set deliberatly.
its all standard apart from hks mushrooms and a bov thats all, how do i adjust it or who is the best person to do it?
Idle bleed screw (Air Adjusting Screw) is just under the intake elbow at the top right hand side of the engine if you are looking into the bay from the front. Turn it all the way clockwise to close it, and then back anticlockwise about half a turn - you can just fiddle with it back and forwards to get the idle speed you want. Its a flat screwdriver you\'ll need IIRC.
Probably help you to grab a copy of the RX7 workshop manual from RotaryArt\'s website (its a free download in PDF), you\'ll find diagrams and instructions in there.
When you say its hot in the cabin is it just the heaters always set to on, What i mean is can you feel any difference on the vents when you switch it from hot to cold. If not, its likely that the switch is disconnected from the guide wire that switches from hot to cold. This would also cause your a/c to blow warm.
Up unitl this last week or so my rex\'s cabin is freezing until the car is warm as i have my fans set to cold to allow the car to warm up quicker.
no the heaters are not on but i tried putting it on cold and it does go cool but not cool enough maybe becos of the waether last sunday was pretty damn hot!
i tried today regassing the a/c but the gas is escaping from somewhere is this a common fault? i need the air con as the weather is getting hotter!!
if i do have a problem with the aircon whos best to take it to?
Thanks for the replys appreciate it very much!

You can buy re-gassing kits off the \'interweb to do it yourself bud:)
Failing that, places like kwikfit do it (get a price though!).

Cheers where do you plug the can in to re-fill it? a picture would be nice :Thumbs-up
I doing it my self my dad is in the air con trade. U need an adapter to gas the system and obviously the gas which should be 134a. Any one knows any one to diagnose the air con systems for vehicles

Plug in points are below the ABS unit to the top right hand side of the engine bay guv (passenger side). Just reach down / look down under the ABS.

If you mean which gas is in the system bud, you will have the older gas if you have an early FD. The 134a was only brought in for newer cars.
If you mean diagnosing any leaks in the system then you can try a specialist company or even Kwickfit.
If you have the older stuff dont breathe any of the older gas in (if any remains in the system) when you de-gas the car to fill up with the new stuff.

You can\'t just fill an R12 system with R134A they ARE NOT compatible with each other due to the oils they use... R12 is now illegal to use due to CFC content. You will need a conversion to R134A and due to the cost, most people just rip it out. Failing that try to find the a/c from a 1995/6 car or later and swap it over, then you can take it to garage or somewhere.

If you\'re dad is in the trade mate then it\'s exactly the same as you diagnose a conventional system, only easier cos it\'s smaller... You\'d want to re-pressurize the system with a dye and then use a black light to see if there are any leaks, or use an electronic tester.
You should also use the appropriate gauge set and vac out the system. you\'d let it stay in vac for a period of time and read the gauge. Obviously after that period of time the gauge should read the same, if not there is a leak.
Refrigerants are not to be messed about with, they can seriously burn you and are also damaging to the environment, take it to a professional if you wish to keep it who has the right equipment, this way it will be safe....
Is it decatted, my previous rx7 use to get really warm, if it has cats they could be blocked and hence it could be because of that. no harm in checking
