Sweet ride you`ve got there, always fancied doing this on an old small car like a mini or something. I take it its gonna be rwd? Are you fabricating a rwd floor pan, what kind of power are we talkin here? Sorry with all the questions but this really is an interesting project.

I guess not.

Ever heard of the term innocent untill proven guilty.

I think Kiwiracer does have a point. I have not seen any 500-600 dyno printouts from Hayward since I have been part of this club, plus Atomic Rex and Tony C have BHP limit to conform to for their class dont they? , maybe you will be the first Steve with your PP GT45 Hayward motor to break into the 500bhp club, looking forward to seeing it at Rotorstock
Title: MY 13b starlet
Post by: GAZ_86 on June 30, 2009, 09:41:55 AM
I have always seen RR results to just be a indication to how much power you got, no point in having a bit I paper telling me that I got 600 bhp when your getting pushed down the road by another car, it\'s all about how it drives on the road,

Thanks chaps, can\'t wait for rotorstock tho:D

Nice ride dude, should be a smasher when done, see a few Porsches/Bimmers/Ferraris, hell, even Lambos off if you hit your magic mark, may be a bit tricky to get all that power down though, especially in a light car, good luck, look forward to seeing you at Rotorstock and I DEFINITELY look forward to seeing the finished project.
Title: MY 13b starlet
Post by: BlitzBoy on June 30, 2009, 09:58:44 AM
yep looking forward to it, even with a 300bhp rotary engine the combination of the lightweight Starlet shell will be make it a very very quick car.

The Turbo you have chosen will flow to a max of 500bhp fly on high boost, you would need something much bigger for 600.

What are you going to use the car for, Street Sleeper,Track or Drag?
Title: MY 13b starlet
Post by: GAZ_86 on June 30, 2009, 10:20:03 AM
Really a gt4088 will only make 500 fly on a Bridgeport? Will be runnig race fuel  too
Title: MY 13b starlet
Post by: BlitzBoy on June 30, 2009, 10:29:22 AM
yes really dude, you have to remember the power figures quoted for turbos are mainly for Piston Engines, you normally have to knock off 20% of those values for a Rotary.
For example my turbo is quoted to be 800bhp-900bhp flow pontential but thats on a piston engine, but on a Rotary 700bhp is more realistic.

Have a look at the dyno table on this forum of power fingures achieved and with what turbos

http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23396

If you want over 500fly (430 at wheels) then Turbos like the T04Z,T51R,T88,GT42R is what you should be looking at
Title: MY 13b starlet
Post by: BlitzBoy on June 30, 2009, 10:32:01 AM
Just to add if you are going for a FULL bridgeport then the rear exhaust housing on the GT4088 maybe too restrictive and may restrict Exhaust flow, but it will spool blooody quick lol

My point wasnt BHP figures Blitz, as im also in the same frame of mind that BHP isnt everything.

My point was that Pete Barbers Drifting results nothing serious ? bear in mind hes only a few points away from leadership.
Also TonyC and Atomics efforts flying the rotary flag and respect they have is also nothing serious ?

Like i say BHP isnt everything, guess it is when you just like the Drag stip.

I to hope to be in the over 500bhp but if it dont make it then my tuning or supporting mods will be to blame not carls engine im sure, cause the car is so strong :2eek even with just 5k and .4 bar.

Going to be nice to see that power in a starlet though :D
Title: MY 13b starlet
Post by: BlitzBoy on June 30, 2009, 10:53:45 AM
I agree Atomics,Tonys and Petes performances are awesome.
But they are medium powered Rotaries in relation to whats out there in the UK. A high powered Rotary 500 fly and much more (in my humble opinion) is what I am waiting from the Hayward Stable, so hoping yours Steve will be the first one and looking forward to it as it will be awesome to see a GT45 PP, was hoping the Drag 20B RX3 was going to be the first.

Im just referring to Gaz\'s first post saying that he is aiming for 500-600 , that turbo will run out of puff at 500, he would need to go bigger.

But if Gaz is not drag racing it then 500 fly is mooorrrre then enough for the road and some circuit use. Well 500 fly in a Starlet will actually give you a 10 second quarter due to the light weight.

But I dont know what the Starlet is going to be used for, so 600 fly might not be necessary
Title: MY 13b starlet
Post by: Kieron on June 30, 2009, 12:25:14 PM
IIRC Tony will be in GT500 so if his engine doesn’t make 500 fly ponies then he isn’t going to be very competitive in his class. Might be too late now, but in the big shows in NZ or OZ they always have a rolling road so you can run your car and wave your willy. Kiwiracer will know more about this. Would be good to have a dyno shoot out at RS6 along with the drag racing.

Thanks for all the info and advise, think I will keep with the gt40 idea and see what it goes like, can always buy a bigger turbo,  hoping to get it down to 900kgs

I\'m still very much a new b when it comes to this engine\'s/ set ups etc, still alot to learn

Title: MY 13b starlet

planning on using it as a once month blast on the road, few drag events, will take it on track and see how it performs too,  dont really no how it will drive handle etc, so after building it I will find out what\'s it suited to and focus in that area

just because the last post was over a year ago doesnt mean a thing. have a look at some of the other build threads on here, loads of them havent been updated for over a year. that doesnt mean they\'ve all been scrapped.:Hammer

I think the biggest thing that surprised me with this thread is he was "trying" to get it down to 900 kg, what do they weigh standard?
