Title: Insurance for 21yr Old?
Post by: SleepyDude on June 19, 2009, 12:16:36 AM
Hello guys, its time for me to get my insurance. I have already been driving my rex a while and last years quote was high £2300 fully comp, allot but very good seeing as I am so young.

A-plan who I used before suggest that i will be able to get covered for £1000 to £1500 which isnt too bad, but im wondering if there are any members who know of insurance companies that may be able to offer competitive quote?

Im not in a hurry as going to get it sorted after my honey moon, late july sometime.

Cheers people

Hmm, looked at the site and I see,

Maximum of three named drivers in addition to the proposer

If named drivers under 25 (max 2), then the proposer must be 30+

Drivers under 25years of age are limited to cars with engine capacity under 2.0L

So if I get say my dad to insure the car through them with me as a named driver then I can still get the quote? The car itself is a 1.3l unless they class it as 2.5l as most now do?

Also what do they view as \'Classic car\' Mine is a 95\' is that old enough?

Cheers for the help ppl

You can\'t have someone else as the proposer, it\'s called insurance fronting and is considered to be fraud.
At 21 you\'ll just have to bite the bullet and pay the premium.

How much you paying with brentacre?

And its not fraud my dad does drive the car and I drive his Veilside fortune Rex, we share cars.

My car is also in his name anyway as I brought it off him a few years ago and did not bother changing the owner details.

Yea I hate paying monthly for stuff so would just pay it off in one go. How many years no claims? and had you been driving the car before? you get a better quote if you have experience driving the car before.

You got there website or contact?

Cheers matey

I\'ve been driving 4 years, 4 years no claims, no points or anything like that, totally clean me... all mods declared, I\'ve had the car a year now.

My experience was that insurance companies will rip you off no matter what kind of car you have or drive or how much you drive, like I said, fully clean and I drive a van nearly every working day, usually a hundred miles a day, nobody takes that into consideration.

I probably have more experience than a lot of 25-50 year old people that only drive their car to the shops or into town once a day or along those lines you know?

Thats a cracking deal mate, I was £1074 when I was 23 with 5yrs NCB!!!

Those accelerated NCB schemes usually only apply to the specific company - ie: if you change insurers next year they won\'t recognise it. Is yours the same?

Found out with the 10 month schemes that the documents will not say 10months scheme etc just say 1 years ncb and there is no need for you to mention it was a 10 month plan to new insurers!

Just write it as 1 years ncb. That\'s what I found out through admiral and the police. (ask allot of questions, to protect my ass lol)

your right trotter, the no claims are not transferrable to other companies but the only cars im ever going to struggle to insure are high insurance group ones which they specialise in. i am tied to them in a sense but im not fussed because of how good they are!!

I got insured with Admiral - I was surprised as they seem ok with certain mods that are done to cars, there is a comprehensive list of tick boxes to declare anything, I got mine for just under a grand when I was 21, fully comp

I use Brentacre too. Nice people to speak to in the UK too which is nice. Mine is around £500 with all mods declaired and any more (non performance mods) don\'t alter the premium either. I even use them for the wife\'s Focus now too.
