Title: tis running sweetly
Post by: andyrose on April 20, 2004, 09:48:35 AM
As most of you are aware I had a lot of trouble after flooding my 3rd gen after a layup. mainly max boost was 4-5psi and anymore felt like i was getting fuel or ignition cut off.
After spending a week under the bonnet in all weathers checking hoses, soleniods, actuators all to no avail was starting to get me down.
Pip (WGT) very kindly called me on his first day back from his holidays and pointed to my ECU possibly being the culprit.
Disconnected said item for half an hour, plugged back in and whoopie! I\'m so happy Im so happy I have 10-8-10 boost readings.
I tried finding any ECU fault codes using the USA method but apparently this doesn\'t work on Jap cars (you need the proper diagnostic machine).
SO remember, If yours is playing up after a low battery fault check that ECU before stripping the engine down to the last nut and bolt!
I can\'t thank Pip enough for helping me out, he is a real star!

A very very happy Andy R

Can\'t believe no one thought about the ecu reset!!!  (including me!!) *embarrassed grimace*

a kind of generic "maybe this\'ll work" fix is to do just that - disconnect the ecu (you can also press the brake pedal for about a minute to drain the system, and put it back together...)

I\'m not sure what effect this has on programmable ecu\'s tho...  will it set it back to the default map??

Chuffed you got it sorted tho, and doesn\'t it feel fast once you get proper boost back...!!! *grin*

Hell - that\'s the first thing I always do!!  Flat tyre - reset the ecu, blown bulb - reset the ecu, windscreen wiper juddering - reset the ecu... *grin*

btw - what effect would the reset the ecu procedure have on an apexi?  would it put it back to the base map?

((ps - I found a spare & working CAT... *grin*))

It wasn\'t under the bed again was it.

apexi can only be reset with a commander something to with rom or ram whoever they are

Nah - up a tree.  It was a bit tough getting it on the car - it\'s tail kept getting in the way, and the fur smelt bad at first as it burnt off, but it seems happier now...

Cool - I was curious about that...
