Title: what Clutch for 400-450 bhp at fly?
Post by: suba on June 12, 2009, 11:34:06 AM
I\'m going to need to source a clutch to suit 400-450 bhp and the fly and the associated torque soon.

I\'ve had paddle clutches on cars before (not an FD) and I\'d rather have an organic for driveability if this is realistic.:driving

you be lucky for an organic to survive 450bhp for long, the other option is a twin plate like a OS Giken or Exedy they have very good driveability and a lot easier on the left leg then a paddle clutch

As Mark says your not going to find an organic to stand this sort of power,

If you would like to follow this link you will find we have some very very special prices on both single and twin plate "metal" paddle and Carbon clutches,

If you want real nice drivabilaty plus being able to hold your power then look at the Carbon deals we have.

For my (expected) 500bhp output Exedy recommended a twin as the only clutch that would stand up to the abuse (for racing).

Exedy rate all their clutches in Torque not horsepower we have found  400 is about enough for this clutch,

You may want to look at this,

Qty 3 / Hyper Twin Plate Retail £1690, Our Price £1150

Or the Carbon single

Most clutches are rated by torque, not power aren\'t they?

Probably a bit late now, but the ACT heavy duty Organic is rated to about 400ftlbs IIRC and costs significantly less than the Hyper single.

ACT 6 puck would have been good enough the power.

Ah well - exedy has been ordered now.

I think Apex Performance parts are a UK dealer for ACT:

I\'ve used Apex before and though their service was very good.
