Title: FD Exhaust manifold onto a FC
Post by: pdtaylor18 on June 11, 2009, 11:07:37 PM
So will a single turbo exhaust manifold of an FD fit on a FC. I am just looking at options and with T4 turbos being fairly cheap it might pay me to go that way. Was looking to get my hybrid rebuilt but it costs more than the turbos worth and i can get a whole new setup for the same money but with better manifold and T4 turbo and thats being FC specific.

So just need to know if a FD one will fit to open up better possibilities for an exhaust manifold as they seem to be a lot cheaper.

i been talking to james about manifolds.. for a few quids more u might as well get a decent one facbricated than buying branded names.
think if n when i change my tub i\'ll most likely get james to fab one up for me :)

James does a good job, seen some of his work when I was down there. Think with the state of the FC standard manifolds and the dreadful cracking they endure then be good to have something else in the market than some of the cheap stuff you see on Ebay. Got my eye on a HKS cast manifold but they want too much money for it, coupled with the price of the turbo and subsequent engineering to get an exhaust to fit i really have to justify the cost and in reality just how much more I am going to get out the car for my purposes.

i used an HKS cast FD manifold on my FC,  fits easily,  you will need to fab a new down pipe or modify the one you have which isnt too difficult.

Very good manifold and nice and quiet too.

Any FD manifold will fit but be prepared to tinker with it a little depending on what wastegate you use and what the compressor size is on the turbo.

If you are not looking for huge power, i found a nice TO4 E with internal w/g complete with manifold and downpipe which made just under 400 fly at 0.8 bar with very little lag for a couple of hundred quid on ebay (in the uk). I couldnt use the manifold or the downpipe as it fowled the steering column on the kit car but would have fitted straight on to an FC.     Its also a lot easier to fit and lighter than an external w/g

Manifolds can be made quite easily but make sure you factor in the cost of a w/gate.

I made this S/S manifold for the kit car.

New turbo next to the stock one

You\'re a star, thanks for the info. Theres a nice setup on the Aussie sites which is good value.
Dont suppose you still have that HKS manifold?

fraid not,  it went with the car.  Anything aussie is more likely to fit due to being RHD
