after a long time thinkin and debating on what to buy i have finally decided to join the rotor scene as they are just amazing had a drive in the one i will be buyin its a single turbo with 350bhp :burnout and i was shakin when i got out of it so can anyine tell me wat i should do or look out for when i buy it or runnig it cheers
welcome to the ups and downs of rotary ownership, hopefully more ups than downs! I hope you`ve owned a turbo`d car before. Get it dynod first, get it checked over, you want to be able to moniter everything so some guages would be a good idea. Pay special attention to the cooling, these things do get hot. Get a metal ast as the plastic ones are the rx7s weak link. Although with already 350hp you`ve probobly got all the basic mods. Look after it and post some pics of her.
whats a ast?
air seperation tank. A little plastic tank that with time, and lets face it rx7s are gettin on a bit will become brittle. I overheated my rex after the plastic broke off blocking one of the connecting pipes thus overheating it. Metal ast`s are about £100, look for a second hand one. Or remove it altogether.
The most important thing is that you know what you are looking at, its easy to fall in love with a Mildly Tuned Fd but you still have to do all the back ground stuff (compression tests/Proof of rebuild, History etc) don\'t forget if its has already been tuned there is a good chance its been driven hard so making sure its right will save you and your bank manager headaches in the future.
I can\'t stress enough how important research is before you commit.
The 1st rx7 fd I looked at had emulsified oil underneath the oil cap but the dip stick was clean, and the radiator fan came on during and after a normal drive. Is this problem? I wanted to buy the car so bad but these things put me of as this is my first time with rotary engines.
It would be great if there was a buyers guide on here for new members.

heres your guide
if its been stood for a while then a little bit under the cap is usually OK
rite enough because its been lyn in his shed hes only done 2000miles in the last year
ive had it in the past and its nothing to worry about
what would be a worry if you clean it up - take it for a spin and it all comes back - thats when i would worry
if its there after a wipe n drive what would you expect it to be? and what money would you be talkin for parts? ive rebuilt 2 stroke and 4strokes before so would mind givin it a go myself
cheers for the help btw, that guide is a good thread
