Hello.
Im looking for any advice that someone can offer for my car. I think the engine is dead.
My car is a 1993 RX7 Auto Efini model. Recently, the car has had some whistling noise under the bonnet, like a loud sucking noise, under hard accelleration. I was going to get this checked out.
The oil light has then began permenantly illuminating, despite showing plenty of oil in the system, and the car may have some form of oil leak, as there has been some smoke coming from under the bonnet when the car is stopped at traffic lights or parked.
A couple of times in the past week, when the car has come to a stop, the engine stutters and the car stalls. It is then difficult to start it up again. I took it to a garage, however they did not have a clue about rotaries.
Yesterday while driving along the motorway, the car cut out and would not restart. I ended up wearing the battery down, so i had to call the AA. They could not find the fault at all and towed me back to my house.
I since boosted the battery and tried to start it, however the starter motor is now making a horrible noise.
Is there any main points that I should be looking at to get the car going again??
If not, could anyone recommend a garage that are in the South West Area.
Many Thanks.
go on to fduk and send youngone a message if you need a rebuild!!!
Oil lights are for pressure not level. Lose oil pressure for to long and you lose your engine.
Hi, i dont know whats going on with your car,but i can fully recomend Carl Hayward as hes the best in my opinion to do your Rebuild and hes only in Newbury. There is also WGT they are also very good but a long way away from us southwest lads.I really dont think i would go anywhere else in my opinion. Its up to you but i wouldnt use anyone else.:yes
why was my post removed?
where abouts in bristol are you mate?
This will sound daft, But i don\'t think Lack of oil will stop it running if the motor still turns over. I had an Engine seize solid due to an Oil pump failure and it was running to the end (was a Bit rough though)
Unfortunately there are lots of things that could cause your Problems, if it was me i\'d start with the simple stuff (check it has even Compression on all Baths, Check there is a good Spark, Check there is Fuel etc, Check the Inlet Hoses and Intercooler for splits/Damage) you are always going to be struggling with Flooding as an Auto runs really rich on start up so that will cause a Vicious circle if there is another issue. If you don\'t come up with anything on the checks i would personally think it was more an Electrical problem.
Apart from the Oil light and the engine Stalling etc does it Idle ok? sound ok when it was running? Did the Turbo\'s Come in ok? Do you any Mods? PFC etc?
The Starter may not have anything to do with the Problem, you may have burnt the Bushes out cranking it too much, it would be worth Jacking it up and make sure its Not loose etc.
Also somethings to look at... Map sensor (make sure the Hose is in good order and the plug is clean and dry)... Water Temp Sensor (This is a paint in the rear but is a common fault, Engine thinks its cold all the time)

have you got this sorted mate?
Speak to Dave ^^ he\'ll sort ya! (Or at least, be able to offer some good advice)
Hi,
Apologies, been busy sorting out a temporary car to get me to work.
Thanks for all of the advice given. At the moment, it is still a non runner, mainly because of the battery being dead.
I wrongly assumed that the oil gauge in the dash was for level not pressure, however I have always checked the oil on the dipstick anyway. The gauge has always read quite low, which makes me think that maybe it was something to do with the oil pressure.
Basically, my plan is to either get the car fixed so that it is running again so that I can p/x it for a manual. Or, if the engine needs a rebuild, see about getting hold of a second hand engine and manual gearbox and doing a straight swap. Im looking for the best option to me.
If anyone knows anyone willing to make some cash on the side, let me know.
p.s: Im in Portishead.
Many Thanks.
