Title: New FC Owner.. couple of questions
Post by: N22CK_C on May 30, 2009, 04:41:12 PM
Hi Everyone..

Just got my EGI RX7 i have question... Seems to flood very easy? Is this me being daft or could it be something else? Soon starts if you unplug the fuel pump in the boot and when it fires plug it back in and it runs sweet.. just will get bit annoying after awhile :Tongue1 any ideas people?

But still rather chuffed so far its soo much funn to drive :Thumbs-up

Cheers Nick

define very easily?

if its flooding when its cold, say youve just turned it on then you turn it off and when you try to start it its flooded. Thats normal.

If you find its flooded when you start it after about 30 mins - 1:30 hours after you\'ve previously used it, it could be worn apex seals or leaking injectors.

if its flooded everytime you start it. Its probably VERY worn apex seals.

if its not apex seals or leaking injectors, you could have bad plugs, or the start up mixture could be too rich.

i\'d sugest checking the plugs and the start up/ idle mixture.

Also an easier way to deflood is to remove the egi fuse (its one of the top ones in the fues box in the engine bay), crank for 10 seconds. Put it back in, then crank again

Welcome to rx7 ownership and mrc :D

glad you like the car, they\'re awesome to drive :D

oh also. If the car isn\'t flooded badly, you can press the accelerator to the floor and then crank, after a few seconds bring it back up and it should start.

Checked my plugs yesterday and there rather new looking..

Noticed one of the connectors from the HT leads to one of the coils is well bit crappy (Elecy tape holding it in ) so new set of leads might help...

Seems to flood when I’ve been using it and then get back in so...  worn apex seals or leaking injectors?

How would I check these... little new to all this rotary stuff so :Tongue1

Cheers ;)

Difficulties starting when hot could unfortunately indicate low compression, not flooding. Hope I\'m wrong, as you may be due a rebuild soon. :-(

isn\'t flooding is an indication of lower compression. TBH i would sort out the HT lead first.

Well how quickly are you getting back in the car after using it? If its almost instantly, say after putting petrol in it, its a sign of low compression. If its after say half hour or an hour, it could be leaking injectors. To check this its best to put some sort of pressure gauge across the fuel system. If it goes down within half an hour or so, then it should just be the leaking injectors.

i thought u sold ur egi..?
i doubt it.. as it caps the boost the ecu sees hence allows more boost than it should do..
egi theres no boost pressure. (i might be wrong)
