Title: Another "guess the power" thread
Post by: Nik da Greek on May 29, 2009, 04:44:46 PM
Well, I got my car back today from being mapped and dynoed, and thought I\'d see if anyone wanted to play the always-fun guess the results game.

Bearing in mind it\'s on stock ports, stock twins and stock fuel system, but with 850 injectors in the primary, and thats pretty much it. Apexi PFC, Profec II boost controller holding .8 bar, Trust SMIC, straight-through ARC titanium exhaust and Apexi intakes. Stir in a little bit of Super 7 mapping trickery and serve whilst piping hot :Giggle

So, place your bets...whoever\'s nearest may or more likely may not win a totally useless and redundant prize..I think I\'ve got a penny chew lying around somewhere :D

Sounds about the same as mine, but it depends wether it\'s been rebuilt or not. If not i would say 330fly

Sorry about the wait...forgot I had me mum coming round for tea tonight, of all things :HammerDoh!

I think the penny chew has to go to Lee for getting closest, although he did pepper the target with random gunfire rather lol :Giggle. Dunno how well the scans\'ll come out with the new MRC stingy pic size thing...

To be fair, I\'m not so exited about the 336 at the fly as I am about the 268 lb/ft of torque and the shape of the curves. I\'d sacrifice a bit of top-end that I never use on the road for grunt off the midrange any day, and the car just flies out of mid revs now. We\'re chuffed with that, we are :D

Hmmm. Be easier to choose if your cars weren\'t both red. We all know red ones are faster, but what happens when they\'re both red  It\'s a hopeless situation :Giggle

Nice results bud, good choice on mid range power, should be a great road weapon now. Find some 350z\'s and show em who\'s boss!

I gotta say, I can\'t belive how good a result it is given the stock ports, fueling and twin tubbies. Jason worked some mapping magic there, and his super-secret trick of machining the primary rail so as to let the bigger injectors seat properly and maintain spray pattern has clearly done wonders. :chuffed :yes

Title: Another "guess the power" thread
Post by: lee mills on May 29, 2009, 11:31:54 PM
it is but i think it was pushing the porting to the max so would rather make the power without so much stress on the engine. And also im chasing a 10 second run

I didn\'t get there. J had already gone up with the car when I turned up yesterday, so I missed the actual dyno bit. Shame, but the way my luck goes, if I\'d been there to watch it would have shlt itself on the rollers :rollin

great torque figures Nik,

But on the subject and just talking about on stock ports,
How come the torque figures vary so much between engines with similar mods, Pip got me 270odd lb\'s/ft,( Ill have to check) but i also see a lot with 220-240lb/ft always around the same 300-350fwhp.

Is it just in the tune or does it give any indication to the health of the motor??

I thought about this too. Mines at 320 bhp fly, 278 Ibft

mine did 324.1 at the fly and 268.0 at the wheels at reworx, similar rwhp but less fwhp for some reason - similar mods but no airpump

Pretty much identical figures to mine, But most dyno sheets ive seen show something more like, 320fwhp  236 lb/ft.

What is the standard 255hp rx7\'s torque figure ?

nice results on a stock engine,  interesting how they calculated 20% losses (drag) most people say 18%,   good for pub torque i spose :)

Lee,  did they find out what the issue with your car was?

Haha pub torque, very good. I wondered about the 18% thing, too. Can\'t answer that one, I\'m afraid. :3Confused

Cheers, Mr Beast! Sorry your \'8s out of action atm, dude, but at least it\'s better to be banned by your doctor than by the Courts :)

Karl, it\'s bloody excellent mate. Especially since I had it with the boost held back to .6 bar before because of the injectors maxing out, so it was well slow. She\'s a goer now :D. I still think it\'d be faster if you let me have  my shopping list back though lol, that\'d be worth another good 10 bhp

Chris, yeah, I\'ll be at RS mate, I\'ve got to prove to Adam that red ones are faster than black (although I can\'t shout too much about that or Lee will prove yellow ones are fasterer still). See you at the bar, dude :cheers

Tip for you,Next time you go for a Tune Buy a Rise rate Fuel reg and a Bosch 044 Pump then have the Fuel pressure turned up, Then hey presto you will have a car capable of 310-320 at the hubs.

528 is enough power for late 10s if everything else like launch and traction is good.

Good result Nick, thats enough power for mid 12s

D\'you reckon? Better brush up on my technique then, and I may stand a chance of making Ada kiss my rosy red butt :D (*ahem* metaphorically :o).

Only annoyance is the pops and bangs you get at 2,200 rpm on a trailing throttle. I wouldn\'t mind, it never goes that low on the road, but in 30mph-ish town traffic it\'s impossible to avoid. Soon as I decelerate at 2500 revs it just goes pop-pop-pop-POP-BANG!, guaranteed. Fun for a bit, but it\'s a bit embarassing at times.

Wonder if it may be a dry join in the exhaust? My old Akrapovic used to do it on my FireBlade cos it was all held together with springs, and it used to draw air in through the joins slightly on the overrun. Any ideas, anyone?

Its not exactly a smooth 528 though mark was pushing the porting to the limits and then some:Laugh

Mines just started this after spending the entire weekend under the bonnet tracing the rats nest and sorting out loose pipes etc. I\'d be interested in anyone response becasue as Nik\'s said it is fun but driving through our quite little village i do feel a bit of a pillock.
