I am doing a single turbo conversion on my FD3 and wanted some pointers as what can go and what needs to stay.. Also what will need connecting to where in the absence of the dreaded ratenests!
I\'ll post up particulars as I do it rather than people flooding the post with info I may not require or have found from searches.
First up is the ratsnest itself.. I gaher this entire lot can be thrown in the bin with all solenoids unless I want the fuel lines to reuse?

What do I do with the redundant plugs.. Just cable tie them up somewhere or do they need short circuiting or anything?
Next is this vacuum chamber that mounts on the throttle body..
I think it is the fuel breather but not sure? It also has a solenoid and one way valve in the pipework.. I think I saw somewhere I need to keep this But as I am not sure what it\'s called I cannot search it! Please let me know what I need to do with it and if I need to keep the one way valves and solenoid?
The other part I could do with some help on is the unit bolted to the LIM?
I think it might be an idle control valve but from what I can see with the ratnest gone that might leave me short some connecting pipes? Do I need to keep the unit? if so what do I connect to what.
Final thought for the day would be the oil injectors.. in the block. I think there are a number of solutions to this and arguements as to which is best but can someone tell me the most common place to connect them up to? I presume I can \'T\' them togther but where do I get the air/vac feed from? inlet manifold? or inlet side of turbo? surely the latter sees vaccum pretty much all of the time? Again might I need a one way valve for this pipe work? I am not sure how it works to be fair. I only found out about it by accident!
Thank you
Lee
You can remove all of the rat\'s nest. All the solenoids go, except the orange one. Plugs can be removed or taped up, if you have an Apexi PFC as it will ignore the signals
I\'ve kept the Oil catch thing, I think that it connects to the fuel purge solnoid (not sure on that one)
The unit bolted onto the LIM is the ACV, you can remove this, but you will need a blanking plate. Mazdo Rotary Parts sells them or you can make your own.
For the oil injectors I\'ve T\'d them together and taken a vacuum feed from inbetween the air filter and the turbo.
Thanks mate.. that was pretty easy!
Errmm.. The oil catch canister (I presume that is the bit that bolts to the throttle body.. Do I need to keep the solenoid for this as well? An just leave it other wise connected up as stock..
What does the ACV unit do? Is it ideal control? If so does taking it off not cause problems? If I want to leave it on do I need a solenoid to run it or can I take vaccum feeds from the plenum for it? It has 2 points? Alternatively can I leave it on and just not plug it in and cap off the vac line holes?
Thank you
Lee
its to do with your air pump, just to blank it off ! i kept fuel temp sensor ,air intake temp sensor ,idle control, throttle position ! dont forget to seperate your fuel pipes from your rats nest unless your running new hoses
Cool.. Air pump is defo gone! I\'ll make up a blanking plate for the ACV right away!
I am in two minds at the mo about getting new fule lines or just detaching the other from the ratenest and putting them back.. Latter would be easier and cheaper!
Where is the fuel temp sensor?? I was not palnning on removing anything other than the airpump, ratsnest and associated lines and solenoids! Certainly don\'t want to be pulling things off by accident!
Thank you
Lee
fuel temp is in your secondry fuel rail lee
must take all the same stuff from mine as the previous owners left it all in it , will run new fuel lines , just to tidy it all up as there is not much needed
So slingo.. that would be the green plug then?! Wondered what that was!
Won\'t be taking that out that\'s for sure..
Cheers
Lee
yeah defo fuel temp mate ! your close to me.do you know gander from havent ?
Bloody hell!!
Small world! I presume you mean Richard.. yer I know him! What\'s he driving these days? 200sx? I hear is getting into the drifting?! Our parents know each other very well!
What car have you got by the way? Is it a candy red rx7? or a black one that looks very similar to mine? I have seen a couple of black ones but someone said they saw one the other day almost identical to mine round our work near bognor tyres.
I work in Bognor.. Did you post on one of my old project build threads?
We definitely need to organise a local meet/drive when my car is done!
Got another conversion question.. I a planing to run 850-850 setup on injectors.. I read somewhere about having to machine the primary rails to fit the secondary injectors correctly however I just tried them and they seem to drop in fine although the tip of the injectors sit a bit further up inside the body? Can someone confirm if they are just a straight swap or I need to do some kind of mod I haven\'t spotted?
Cheers
Lee
Slingo..
You are not by any chance related to a Jason are you?!
yeah thats him got a rb26 s13 560 powers ! im rebuilding mine at the moment its in gen 3 on here ive put a project up but its a white c west fd3.where abouts in bognor do you work ? im a tech at milestones garage felpham and jason is my cousin
Bugger me!!
really is a small world.. I know Jason through work.. He also knows a few guy\'s I went to school with! tell him Lee at URT and he should know. I haven\'t sopoken to him for a while so hope he still has his job in Havant?
As for Rich.. Where does that boy get his money! Ever since I can remember he\'s always had some stupidly modified car! fair play!
Is Rich on any of the forums do you know? I am on a fair few from owning different cars and looking for parts and info! Wouldn\'t mind catching up with him some time.
Will check out your build thread!
Cheers for all the info!

I\'ve heard that it is hard to get a smooth idle if you uprate the primary injectors. I think most people get bigger secondary injectors as these really come into their own when the car is under boost, plus it\'s usually cheaper too.
Lee if you want to have a look at my single set up youe more than welcome to have a nose about,
you can get my number off clair
Very nice offer.. I might take you up on that one!
Certainly be good to meet up at least!
Bobbit, I had also heard about problems running 850 primaries so I spoke to a tunner and they assured me it was not the case and they would be good for more than plenty of bhp!
Plus it is hell loads cheaper going that route! Next to bugger all for a pair of injectors and no need to get an aftermarket fuel rail setup!
Someone mentioned earleir that you need to keep the orange solenoid? Firstly what is this one for and secondly can I just leave it floating in the breeze under the UIM? I thought all the rails and pipes came out and went in the bin other than the fuel ones. I was also planning to cut the end or the bracket off that has the coil pack fixing to bolt the coil packs in place. Alternatively do you just strip al the pipes and solenoids off and put the frame work back with the orange solenoid in tact?
One more conversion question.. what ever the two green solenoids on the UIM here (top left)

Do these stay or go?
Thank you
Lee
Lee, they are not needed... they go
Hey can you get rid of the 02 sensor and put a bung in? esp if its is disabled on the pfc??? surely you can?? tb x
