I\'d appreciate some help diagnosing this issue.
When my FD3 comes on boost under load (say 4th gear 3,000 rpm). there is a clicking / rattle noise - it sounds like this is coming from behind the steering column. Almost like a rattly valve....?
performance of the car does not seem to be effected in any way at all.
Any ideas as to the cause? Dump Valve or other?

What kind of frequency and sound? Is it like a farting rasp? or a metal on metal slow clicking noise? If it just clicks once it could be the airpump disengaging. more info required. if it rasp its prob exhaust related (leak)
could be the holder for the steering wheel, it\'s a metal clamp thingie, try moving the steering wheel up/down/side to side to see if you can replicate the noise. I only mention this as i cahnged my dash recently and mine did this. I tightend it up and all is fine.
high gear dependent rattle on load / boost = likely detonation !!!
especially in the 3500- 4500 rpm range, 4th gear
that should be your first and foremost consideration,,,
and until proven not,,, assume it IS
what is your full setup??? do you have knock detection and is it active?
It might be the airpump \'moo\' if you have an aftermarket air filter fitted

No way it is det - map was checked at reworx last weekend, and not even a hint of det there....despite that you\'ve got me really worried now!
Engine mods are:
Trust IC
Race radiator
HKS / racing beat exhaust with decat
power fc + commander
EBC at 0.8 bar on sequential twins

Not a farting sound at all - more like a plastic on metal rapid vibrating noise - like a solenoid or valve / gauge vibrating. God it\'s annoying trying to describe noises!:eek:
The airpump has been removed on my car, though I did blank off one of the ports that was left to atmosphere round the back of the engine for the rolling road check last weekend as the exhaust was pulling in un-metered air and making it seem like the car was running lean. I think this should be first port of call.:mmmm
A quick post to say that I have sorted this one - the Greddy EBC solenoid was mounted on the bulkhead. The rubber washer insulating it had worn away meaning that it\'s mounting was touching the metal of the bulkhead, so the solenoid operation noise was being amplified. A few rubber o-rings added to the mouting points and no more noise.:wave

Glad you\'ve sorted it dude - didn\'t even thnk of that. My AVCR on my 14a used to click like a mofo! Like you say - a few grommets and some rubber padding, and job done :cool:
